Prince William is bringing the emotions for U.K. Mother’s Day.
On Sunday, March 15, the Prince of Wales, 43, marked Mothering Sunday by sharing an unseen throwback photo from his private collection — and it’s a tender one. The image shows William as a little boy, holding hands with Princess Diana in a field of flowers at Highgrove back in 1984. William was just 2 years old at the time.
His message was short, personal, and instantly went viral with royal watchers.
“Remembering my mother, today and every day,” William wrote. “Thinking of all those who are remembering someone they love today. Happy Mother’s Day. W.”
Diana, the late Princess of Wales, died in 1997 when William was 15. The tribute also comes with another poignant detail: Diana would have turned 65 on July 1.
William wasn’t the only royal reflecting on the day. King Charles and Queen Camilla also posted their own Mothering Sunday message, sharing family photos and sending support to anyone missing their mum.
Meanwhile, Kate Middleton didn’t share a public Mother’s Day post on the couple’s official account this year. The Princess of Wales has previously spoken about how deeply motherhood shapes her life — something that has taken on even more meaning following her cancer diagnosis and ongoing recovery.
In past years, Kate has used the holiday to talk about nature as a source of comfort, calling the outdoors a “sanctuary” during a difficult stretch and encouraging people to recognize how the natural world can help nurture and heal.
Kate has been easing back into public duties alongside William, and the couple continue to keep their family life front and center as they raise Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis.
Next up on their royal calendar: a major diplomatic moment. Kate and William are expected to join King Charles in hosting the President of Nigeria for a state visit beginning March 18.
