President Donald Trump is throwing his full support behind YouTuber-turned-candidate Brandon Herrera — but old clips are resurfacing that could make this endorsement seriously awkward.
On Wednesday, March 11, Trump posted on Truth Social praising the 30-year-old and saying Herrera will push the “MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN Agenda.” Trump said Herrera will “fight hard” to cut taxes and regulations, secure the border, and crack down on migrant crime, before sealing it with: “Complete and Total Endorsement” for Texas’ 23rd Congressional District.
There’s just one problem.
Herrera has a history of jokes about Trump’s youngest son, Barron — and they weren’t exactly gentle.
Back in February 2024, Herrera and his co-hosts on the Unsubscribe podcast joked about Barron’s appearance, with one co-host calling him a “long ventriloquist-like dummy” and another saying he “looks like a bully,” according to the clips being cited.
Herrera then piled on, claiming Barron is “like nine feet tall,” saying the teen was “starting to become a meme.” He also reportedly imitated Barron’s voice, joking, “Daddy is coming, Daddy is angry.”
And that’s not the only time Herrera’s past comments have complicated his Trump connection.
In August 2023, Herrera publicly criticized Trump, claiming the former reality star had “messed up a lot of stuff” involving guns and policy.
More recently, Trump’s lawyers allegedly took issue with a campaign mailer connected to Herrera that used Trump’s image in what they called a “deceptive manner,” arguing it could confuse voters about Trump’s preferred candidate in the primary.
Despite all of that, Trump now appears firmly in Herrera’s corner — especially after Rep. Tony Gonzales, who Trump previously backed, exited the race following reports of an affair with a former staffer. The staffer later died by suicide.
Herrera celebrated the endorsement publicly, thanking Trump and saying it’s time to “take the fight to the Democrats” in November.
As for Barron? No public reaction yet.
Barron, now 19, is reportedly focused on school at NYU’s Stern School of Business and keeps a low profile. A former NYU College Republicans president previously described him as an “oddity on campus,” claiming he mostly keeps to a tight routine: class, then home.
Sources have also claimed Barron is increasingly careful about how he presents himself, staying quiet, deliberate, and intensely protective of his privacy.
Which is why the timing of this endorsement — and the resurfacing of those podcast jokes — is raising eyebrows fast.
