A new national survey is delivering a headline few in Washington expected: more Americans say global music star Bad Bunny represents the country better than President Donald Trump.

The poll, conducted by YouGov for Yahoo News between Feb. 9 and Feb. 12, surveyed 1,700 adults nationwide. The results were tight but striking. Forty-two percent of respondents said Bad Bunny better represents America. Thirty-nine percent chose Trump.

The findings come just days after the Super Bowl LX halftime show, where Bad Bunny headlined in a performance that blended Spanish lyrics, Puerto Rican imagery, and overt political messaging.

The White House did not immediately respond to requests for comment on the poll numbers. But Trump had already made his position clear.

“The Super Bowl Halftime Show is absolutely terrible, one of the worst, EVER!” Trump wrote on Truth Social after the broadcast. “It makes no sense, is an affront to the Greatness of America, and doesn’t represent our standards of Success, Creativity, or Excellence.”

The halftime show was viewed by an estimated 128 million people across broadcast and streaming platforms. Bad Bunny, born Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio in Puerto Rico, performed primarily in Spanish. According to U.S. Census data, roughly 50 million Americans speak Spanish at home.

During the show, a banner flashed across the stadium reading, “The only thing more powerful than hate is love.” The singer echoed the sentiment in Spanish to roaring applause.

For supporters, it was a celebration of modern American identity. For critics, it was a provocation.

“This was a middle finger to the rest of America,” former Fox News host Megyn Kelly said during an appearance with British broadcaster Piers Morgan. “The halftime show needs to stay quintessentially American. Not Spanish, not anything else.”

The Yahoo/YouGov data underscores how deeply divided the country remains.

Among Democrats, 77 percent approved of the Super Bowl headliner. Just 13 percent of Republicans agreed. Independents leaned away from the president: only 27 percent said Trump represents America, while 46 percent sided with the musician.

Polling analysts say the question itself reflects a broader generational and cultural shift.

“This isn’t just about music,” one political strategist said. “It’s about who gets to define ‘American’ in 2026.”

Conservative activists attempted to counter the halftime spectacle.

Turning Point USA, founded by Charlie Kirk, promoted an alternative “All-American Halftime Show” featuring Kid Rock.

The pre-recorded event reportedly struggled with distribution issues on X due to licensing restrictions. It ultimately drew a fraction of the audience commanded by the NFL broadcast.

Even some voices on the right acknowledged the uphill battle. Conservative commentator Candace Owens wrote on X that the performance was “objectively successful, whether you like it or not,” warning fellow conservatives against “deluding themselves” about its reach.

In perhaps the most ironic development of the week, Trump was reportedly seen streaming portions of Bad Bunny’s performance during a Super Bowl gathering at Mar-a-Lago.

Neither Trump nor his representatives addressed that report directly.

Presidents are rarely measured against pop stars in national polling. Yet the 42–39 split suggests that cultural influence is increasingly intersecting with political identity.

For decades, politicians have fought to claim ownership of symbols like the flag, the anthem, and the Super Bowl stage. Now, those symbols are evolving.

The question is no longer just who leads the country.

It may be who defines it.

    1. Where does the LSM keep finding these fake polls about Trump? More and more we love that Trump is doing what we voted him in for!

Most people watched something else or ignored the crappy perverted immoral Super Bowl Half Time Show in Spanish… The alternative show was on about 10 or more other venues, not just X… Fans in the stadium were pissed that they were a ‘captive audience’ for that crap…

  1. Who did this poll and what questions asked along with who surveyed? No one I have talked even watched the half time doom for NFL. Matter of fact most of them didn’t even watch the game. They say if games have been rigged why watch. I think anything that attacks Americans and ICE are rigging everything. Our country history has been lies after lies because of democrats and those who are also profiting off the backs of the middle class. Just for mention I seen the words in a blog over this bad bunny songs. Please find words for his so called songs and tell me Americans loved it? Porn porn porn. If you haven’t left NFL you will now. Let’s just say NFL just destroyed itself and their players allowed the downfall to happen. Go woke go broke. Way to go NFL you fell into democrats trap hook line and sinker.
