Trump, 79, Ordered to Surrender His Medical Records

President Donald Trump’s long-running war against the “fake news media” is boomeranging in spectacular fashion.

In a stunning legal twist, the board of the Pulitzer Prizes has ordered the 79-year-old president to hand over his medical and psychological records — as well as years of tax returns — after Trump’s defamation lawsuit against them began to crumble in court.

The demand, filed this month in Okeechobee County, Florida, marks a deeply personal escalation in Trump’s latest battle with the press. The president, who sued the Pulitzer board back in 2022 for honoring reporting on his campaign’s ties to Russia, is now being asked to reveal intimate details of his health, prescriptions, and finances within 30 days.

“The irony here is almost cinematic,” said former Justice Department attorney Michael Stern. “A man who made his career attacking transparency is now being forced to live by it.”

Trump’s original lawsuit accused the Pulitzer board of “perpetuating the absurdly false and defamatory narrative” that his 2016 campaign colluded with Vladimir Putin’s government.

In 2018, both The New York Times and The Washington Post shared the Pulitzer Prize for their coverage of Russian election interference — work that Trump denounced as a hoax. He later demanded the awards be revoked.

But after multiple reviews, the Pulitzer board reaffirmed that the reporting “furthered the nation’s understanding of Russian interference” and that “no elements of the winning work have been discredited.”

Now, the tables have turned. Attorneys for the board are seeking to verify Trump’s own claims of damages by requesting documentation of his financial and medical condition — including his tax returns from 2015 onward, all financial holdings, outstanding debts, and “any documents sufficient to show physical or psychological health.”

“It’s a classic move,” said First Amendment lawyer Susan Bloch. “If you’re claiming reputational harm, your personal records become fair game.”

The order arrives as Trump faces intensifying scrutiny over his physical and mental fitness.

Despite his repeated insistence that he’s in “perfect health,” observers have noted signs of fatigue and confusion during public events. Recent photographs show the president with heavy makeup and visible bandages on his right hand.

“He’s fallen asleep twice in meetings I’ve attended,” one former White House staffer told Politico anonymously last week. “People joke that he’s being propped up by caffeine and defiance.”

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt has been left to fend off growing speculation. “The president is in excellent condition and sharper than ever,” she told reporters. “Any claims to the contrary are part of a coordinated smear campaign by left-wing media outlets.”

Still, Trump’s critics point to a string of erratic moments — from drifting off mid-sentence during Cabinet briefings to calling reporters “traitors” for asking about his stamina. On Truth Social last week, he ranted that questioning his health was “treasonous” and hinted at “severe consequences” for journalists who did so.

The Pulitzer board’s legal filing also demands full access to Trump’s tax documents — a subject he has fought to keep secret for nearly a decade.

Although he now claims a net worth of more than $5 billion, Trump’s finances remain opaque. His sons Eric and Don Jr. have taken over day-to-day operations of the Trump Organization, which now includes ventures in cryptocurrency, branded spirits, and even a short-lived “Trump Mobile” smartphone.

“This could be devastating if the records show inconsistencies between what he’s told the public and what’s actually true,” said financial analyst and Trump biographer David Cay Johnston. “It’s not just about money — it’s about credibility, which he’s already low on.”

The Pulitzer case is just one of several legal battles piling up for the president. Between ongoing ethics complaints, civil suits tied to his post-election fundraising, and investigations into potential misuse of federal property for campaign purposes, Trump’s post-White House years are shaping up to be as litigious as his presidency.

Still, his base remains loyal. “President Trump is committed to holding those who traffic in fake news, lies, and smears to account,” his legal team told The Daily Beast. “This case is about correcting the record and defending the truth.”

But as Trump’s past collides with his present, even allies are growing uneasy. “He’s starting to look like a man haunted by his own battles,” said one longtime Republican strategist. “And this time, the fight might draw more blood than headlines.”
