What began as a family night out at a popular indoor adventure park ended in heartbreak when a 6-year-old girl died following a go-kart accident inside Urban Air Trampoline and Adventure Park in Port St. Lucie, authorities confirmed Sunday.

Police said first responders rushed to the scene shortly before 9 p.m. Saturday after staff called 911, reporting that a young child had been seriously injured on the go-kart track.

The girl, whose name has not yet been released, was airlifted to a hospital in Fort Pierce. Despite emergency treatment, she was pronounced dead the next day.

“This is a heartbreaking tragedy. Detectives are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident,” the Port St. Lucie Police Department said in a statement Monday.

The Urban Air facility, part of a national chain of trampoline and family entertainment parks, advertises itself as “the ultimate indoor adventure park.” The Port St. Lucie location offers trampolines, bumper cars, laser tag, a zip line, and the go-kart attraction now under investigation.

Witnesses told local reporters that the park was crowded with families celebrating birthdays and early holiday events when the accident happened. “Everyone just froze when they realized how bad it was,” said one mother who asked not to be named. “You could hear parents crying. It was chaos.”

The Port St. Lucie Police Department said the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has been notified “as required” and will review whether any safety protocols were violated. The park’s management has not yet commented publicly.

According to state business records, Urban Air operates under a franchise model, meaning individual locations are locally owned. Some past incidents at similar entertainment centers have led to questions about oversight and training for high-speed attractions marketed to children.

In 2022, for example, an 8-year-old boy suffered a severe head injury at an Urban Air location in Texas after his kart struck a barrier. That case resulted in a civil settlement the following year.

Port St. Lucie residents have begun leaving flowers and stuffed animals outside the Urban Air entrance. “She was just a baby,” one neighbor said tearfully. “No family should ever have to go through this.”

Police said more details — including the exact cause of the accident and results from the medical examiner — will be released once the investigation is complete.
