‘ShamWow!’ Guy Running for Congress

The man who shouted his way into America’s living rooms with “You’ll be saying wow every time!” is now hoping to do the same in Washington.

Vince Offer — better known as the fast-talking face of the ShamWow! infomercial — has officially filed to run for Congress.

According to new filings released Friday, the 61-year-old TV salesman, whose legal name is Offer Vince Shlomi, will challenge longtime Republican Congressman John Carter in Texas’ 31st District. Carter, 81, has held the seat for more than two decades.

Offer, who made millions pitching everything from absorbent towels to kitchen gadgets, is now aiming for a new audience — voters.

“I’ve been to those flea markets, and nice doesn’t get people to stop,” Offer once told CNBC about his sales strategy. “People stop when you are aggressive and when you bring them in.”

That same bombastic energy defined his commercials for the Slap Chop, the Schticky lint roller, and his cleaning spray InVinceable. He even created the Crank Chop, a manual food processor that became a viral hit on late-night TV.

But Offer’s past isn’t spotless. In 2009, he made headlines after being arrested in Miami for allegedly fighting with a prostitute — a bizarre incident that ended with no charges filed.

Before becoming a household name for selling sponges and slicers, Offer wrote, directed, and starred in The Underground Comedy Movie (1999), a raunchy sketch film that critics panned. Rotten Tomatoes still gives it a meager 33% rating.

Now, he’s turning his salesman instincts toward politics, running in a crowded GOP primary against eight other Republicans.

While his campaign platform remains unclear, political watchers say his name recognition could give him an advantage — at least among voters who remember late-night TV.

As one political analyst quipped on social media: “Only in America could the ShamWow guy take on an 81-year-old congressman. You can’t make this stuff up.”
