A political wildfire ripped through President Donald Trump’s second-term capital this week after newly unsealed court filings revealed that Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. allegedly sent journalist Olivia Nuzzi a series of sexually graphic messages — including a disturbing “poem” filled with domination fantasies, violent imagery, and what one witness called “some of the most explicit language ever linked to a Cabinet official.”
The claims surfaced as part of a bitter legal battle between Nuzzi and her ex-fiancé, political reporter Ryan Lizza, who says he learned of the affair directly from Nuzzi and is now fighting back after she accused him of harassment and hacking.
The White House has not issued a formal statement, but a senior West Wing official told this outlet, “The President is aware of the situation. Let’s just say this isn’t the headline anyone wanted in the middle of a health-care push.”
In newly disclosed filings, Lizza says Kennedy sent Nuzzi an explicit text titled “American Canyon.”
According to the documents, Kennedy allegedly wrote:
“Yr open mouth awaiting my harvest. I mean to squeeze your cheeks to force open your mouth. I’ll hold your nose… Don’t spill a drop. I am a river. You are my canyon. I mean to subdue and tame you.”
Lizza says this wasn’t the only one.
“There were many others,” he wrote, “too explicit to print.”
A former Kennedy campaign staffer, speaking anonymously, told us, “If even half of this is true, it’s unbelievable. That’s not poetic — that’s unhinged.”
Lizza alleges that Nuzzi privately described Kennedy as a “sex addict” and told him the relationship had become “toxic,” “psychotic,” and “indefensible.”
He claims she said Kennedy wanted to “possess,” “control,” and even impregnate her — language that stunned many in political circles who once watched Kennedy challenge then-President Trump in the 2024 primaries.
“He was obsessed,” Lizza wrote. “It was all-consuming and deeply manipulative.”
A media colleague who worked with Nuzzi in 2023 told this outlet:
“Everyone thought she was chasing a big story. Turns out the story was chasing her.”
The filings also reveal Lizza’s aggressive pushback against Nuzzi’s claims that he accessed her devices.
“I never hacked into any of her devices,” he wrote. “Almost everything I know about her affair comes directly from Ms. Nuzzi herself.”
He also denied ever threatening violence.
“There has never been any physical violence. Ever,” he said.
According to Lizza, Nuzzi has only herself to blame for the career collapse she has publicly lamented.
“Her recklessness is solely responsible for the ridicule and humiliation she says she has suffered,” he wrote. “Her claims against me are a disgraceful lie.”
The pair had been under contract to co-author a book on the 2024 race.
Now, Lizza says the project has been destroyed — again.
“It’s the second presidential cycle in a row where Nuzzi’s personal indiscretions have sabotaged our book,” he wrote, saying she should repay their advance.
A New York literary agent familiar with the situation told us, “That book is dead. No publisher wants to attach their brand to a scandal this radioactive.”
Secretary Kennedy has yet to publicly address the allegations.
Sources close to his office say discussions are underway about a statement, though one insider admitted, “There’s no good version of this.”
A senior Trump administration official told us, “This will get worse before it gets better. Washington hasn’t seen a Cabinet scandal like this in years.”
With the court fight intensifying and more filings expected, one thing is clear:
This is no longer just a messy breakup. It’s a political explosion with the potential to shake an administration already juggling crises on multiple fronts.
