California Governor Gavin Newsom is once again taking direct aim at President Donald Trump — this time urging the nation to “pray” for him after the president delivered a series of rambling remarks about his recent medical exam.
“Please pray for our President. He is not mentally well,” Newsom posted late Saturday on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter. The statement came just hours after Trump, 79, told reporters aboard Air Force One that his MRI results were “outstanding” — before admitting he had “no idea” what doctors had actually analyzed.
The bizarre exchange quickly went viral, with critics calling it another example of the president’s growing instability. “I have the physical every year, and the result was outstanding,” Trump said, according to reporters traveling with him. “I have no idea what they analyzed, but whatever they analyzed, they analyzed it well.”
He went on to brag about “acing” his cognitive test, claiming he got a “perfect score — the highest score they’ve ever seen.” Trump even challenged Democratic lawmakers Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Jasmine Crockett to take the same test, saying they wouldn’t “come close.”
While the White House tried to downplay the president’s odd phrasing, sources close to the administration told The Washington Post that aides were “scrambling to clarify” Trump’s comments amid growing speculation about his mental fitness.
Newsom’s swipe marks the latest chapter in his ongoing war of words with the president. The 58-year-old Democrat has emerged as one of Trump’s fiercest critics, often using social media to highlight what he describes as the “moral and intellectual collapse” of the Trump presidency.
Just last month, Newsom mocked Trump’s ties to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein after House investigators released 20,000 pages of emails from Epstein’s private network. One post showed a digitally altered sign outside the West Wing reading, “I am a pedo.” Another featured an AI-generated cartoon of Trump and Epstein as “The Island Boys,” a jab at Epstein’s private Caribbean hideaway.
Political analysts say Newsom’s sharpened rhetoric could signal early maneuvering for a 2028 presidential run. “He’s clearly positioning himself as the moral and intellectual counterweight to Trumpism,” said political strategist Maria Santiago. “This is not just trolling — it’s a preview of a national campaign message.”
The feud has spilled into policy. Earlier this month, the Department of Justice, under Trump’s direction, moved to block California’s Proposition 50 — a voter-approved measure to redraw congressional districts to combat Republican gerrymandering in Texas and other states.
Newsom blasted the DOJ’s lawsuit as “sloppy and unconstitutional,” pointing out that Trump’s legal team referred to the “California General Assembly” — a body that doesn’t exist. “When Trump’s hand-picked hacks at DOJ can’t tell California from North Carolina,” his press office posted, “you know the lawsuit is about as credible as Trump’s ‘I don’t know Epstein’ line.”
Newsom’s call for Americans to “pray” for Trump may sound like mockery, but it reflects a growing unease — even among some moderate Republicans — about the president’s erratic behavior. A recent Pew survey found that 46% of Americans now believe Trump is “not mentally fit” to serve, up from 38% just six months ago.
Still, Trump’s base remains fiercely loyal. On Truth Social, his supporters dismissed Newsom’s remarks as “blasphemy” and accused the California governor of “weaponizing compassion.”
But for Newsom, who has spent much of 2025 positioning himself as a national voice for Democrats, the moment is strategic. “The world’s watching,” he said in a follow-up post. “America deserves better — and so does the president’s own family.”

Democrats are failing at everything they say and do. No surprise they claim President Trump has health problems. These are the same people who claimed basement boy was at the top of his game and sharp as a tack. Need to understand when democrats open their mouths they are either telling you what they have done or just flat out lying. They seem to think they can say and do what ever they want and we will believe them. How many times have they blamed President Trump for what they did themselves? These are same people who told us for years that President Trump was a criminal and went after him with lawfare. These same people are now crying because they are getting caught in their own corruption. They can dish crap out but can’t take it when their corruption catches up with them. Tell me Nosome how much did your aunt Pelosi show you how to steal from own government? On how to coverup your corruption with help of others? How to become wealthy at the expense of your own state? How to suck up to your state while stabbing the citizens in the back then telling them it’s all good I did it for you. California deserves all the criminals in it’s government because they have allowed the democrats to steal elections for many years. Yet elites all flee and leave the innocent people behind to reap the harm they caused over the years. I think all red states need laws to protect them from blue state runaways who are just relocating to do more harm in red states. Red states need to get certain tax dollars from these blue state runaways for certain amount of years. Think about what they allowed to happen in those blue states. Part of blue States problems. Protect red states from blue states 100%.
