In a stunning turn that’s reigniting one of Washington’s darkest controversies, newly released emails suggest President Donald Trump may have spent his first Thanksgiving in office — back in 2017 — with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
The emails, made public by Democrats on the House Oversight Committee this week, appear to show Epstein casually naming “Trump” among guests for a private Thanksgiving dinner. The revelations have sparked outrage across Capitol Hill and renewed calls for the Justice Department to fully declassify the Epstein files.
According to documents subpoenaed from Epstein’s estate, the late financier exchanged messages with Faith Kates, the founder of NEXT Model Management, on November 23, 2017.
When Kates asked, “Where are you having Thanksgiving?” Epstein replied cryptically: “eva,” believed to refer to his longtime associate Eva Andersson-Dubin. The conversation continued casually until Epstein added: “david fizel. hanson. trump.”
Democrats released the screenshots on social media within hours. Illinois Congressman Sean Casten posted one of the emails on X, writing, “Trump spent his first Thanksgiving after getting elected President with Jeffrey Epstein. 2017.”
Political analysts were quick to note the timing — the same year Trump was reshaping his White House staff amid ethics scandals and mounting criticism over his ties to billionaires and donors.
The emails contradict Trump’s long-standing public stance that he cut ties with Epstein “long before” the financier’s 2008 sex crime conviction. Trump once called Epstein “a creep” who was “stealing” young women from Mar-a-Lago.
But resurfaced court documents and leaked communications continue to raise questions. In a 2016 deposition, Epstein allegedly told associates Trump was the “dog that hasn’t barked” — implying the future president had information that could be damaging if revealed.
Political strategist Maria Cardona told MSNBC Friday night, “This looks less like coincidence and more like careful damage control. Every time Epstein’s name comes up, Trump points at Clinton. But these emails point right back at him.”
Within hours of the story breaking, Trump erupted on Truth Social, calling the allegations “a total Epstein hoax.”
“The Democrats are doing everything in their withering power to push the Epstein Hoax again,” Trump posted. “They’re trying to distract from their SHUTDOWN EMBARRASSMENT. Epstein was a Democrat’s problem, not mine.”
The president then announced that Attorney General Pam Bondi would direct the Justice Department to open an “immediate investigation” — not into Epstein’s Republican ties, but into the late financier’s links with “Bill Clinton, Larry Summers, Reid Hoffman, and others.”
“This is another Russia, Russia, Russia scam,” Trump ranted. “Records show that these men spent large portions of their life with Epstein on his island. Stay tuned!!!”
Democratic leaders were quick to condemn the president’s response. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez called Trump’s post “a transparent deflection.”
“If there’s nothing to hide, he should welcome the release of every Epstein document — unredacted and public,” she said.
House Oversight Chair Jamie Raskin echoed the sentiment: “The American people deserve to know the full truth about Epstein’s network and who was protected. No one should be shielded — not billionaires, not presidents.”
The revelation lands at a volatile moment. With Trump’s approval ratings slipping amid inflation and renewed global unrest, the resurfacing of his Epstein connection could prove politically costly.
Legal analyst Joyce Vance summed it up bluntly: “Trump’s reflex is always projection. But this time, the paper trail is longer than his tweet thread.”
The White House has not confirmed whether Trump attended Epstein’s Thanksgiving gathering in 2017. The Justice Department has not yet commented on whether the newly leaked emails will prompt a fresh inquiry.
But one thing is clear — the ghost of Epstein continues to haunt the highest levels of power.
