All flights at one of the busiest airports in the U.S. were temporarily grounded Tuesday after a bomb threat targeted a United Airlines flight, authorities said.

The flight, traveling from Houston to Ronald Reagan National Airport in Washington, D.C., was moved to a secure area of the airfield, where passengers disembarked and were bused to the terminal, according to the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority.

United Airlines directed all questions about the incident to the FBI.

Operations at the airport resumed around 1:30 p.m. ET, with U.S. Department of Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy praising law enforcement for their quick response.

Before flights got back on schedule, departing flights faced an average delay of 51 minutes, with some delays lasting more than two hours, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.

The disruption comes amid rising flight delays nationwide as the federal government enters its second month of a partial shutdown, leaving air traffic controllers working without pay.
