George Clooney has finally responded to the profanity-laced tirade Hunter Biden launched at him over the summer, calling the president’s son’s July comments “outright lies” and urging Democrats to focus on what’s ahead—especially with Donald Trump back in the White House.

The confrontation, once whispered behind closed doors, is now playing out in public as the Democratic Party reels from a chaotic year marked by infighting, missed opportunities, and a historic retreat from the 2024 election by President Joe Biden himself.

The feud began when Hunter Biden, in a July interview with Channel 5’s Andrew Callaghan, unleashed a furious, expletive-filled attack on Clooney, blaming him for what he saw as a betrayal of his father—who served more than five decades in public service.

“F*** you,” Hunter fumed. “What right do you have to step on a man who’s given 52 years of his f***ing life to this country?”

Hunter was referencing Clooney’s now-infamous New York Times op-ed, published in summer 2024, which publicly called on President Biden to step aside amid growing concerns about his age and cognitive sharpness. The piece ignited a firestorm—and, some say, helped tip the scales toward Biden’s decision to withdraw just weeks later.

In an interview that aired Sunday on CBS Sunday Morning, Clooney addressed the controversy head-on.

“I could spend a lot of time debunking many of the things Hunter said,” he told Seth Doane. “Obama didn’t put me up to it. It was my fundraiser. A lot of what he said were just outright lies.”

Despite the tension, Clooney struck a more tempered tone than Biden’s son, saying he didn’t find it productive to publicly feud.

“I have many personal opinions about it, but I don’t think it helps anyone—especially not the party—to keep looking backwards,” he said. “So I’m just going to wish him well in his recovery and leave it at that.”

Clooney’s op-ed, published on July 10, 2024, came just days after the actor co-hosted a high-profile Hollywood fundraiser for Biden. Attendees whispered afterward that the president appeared disoriented and confused—reportedly failing to recognize Clooney himself, a close family friend and longtime Democratic power player.

“He wasn’t the host,” Hunter snapped in his July interview. “He was the entertainment, I guess.”

That dig didn’t go unnoticed.

Clooney had remained relatively quiet since the public blowup—but on Sunday, he took the opportunity to reflect on the consequences of that moment, including what he called Biden’s mistake of passing the torch directly to Kamala Harris.

“We had a chance,” he said. “I wanted there to be a real primary. Let’s battle-test this. The mistake with it being Kamala is that she had to run against her own record—and that’s incredibly hard when the whole point is to say, ‘I’m not that person.’”

“She was given an impossible task,” Clooney added. “I think it was a mistake. But we are where we are.”

With Trump now firmly back in power—and wielding it with a vengeance—Democrats are still grappling with the fallout from the disorganized 2024 cycle. The open wounds between prominent figures like Clooney and the Bidens risk further fracturing an already divided base.

Clooney’s message, however, was clear: it’s time to regroup.
