A Fox News personality is under fire after making eyebrow-raising claims about Barron Trump’s private life — including his alleged reputation on a women’s dating app — in a column that critics are calling “invasive” and “downright sleazy.”
The commentator, known simply as Kennedy, wrote Wednesday in the Daily Mail that she had “heard gossip” about the 19-year-old first son, now a sophomore at New York University.
“My college-aged daughters have plenty of friends who’ve gone to school with Barron and they’ve given me the lowdown,” Kennedy claimed. “Some said he’s ‘weird,’ others that he ‘doesn’t talk.’”
But the Fox contributor didn’t stop there. She alleged that Barron was being “slandered” on a private dating app called Tea, where women share notes about men they’ve dated.
“Poor Barron is on it and I’ve seen his profile,” Kennedy wrote. “Take this comment: ‘Messy, played in my face, definitely DL, ran through, chopped.’”
Kennedy then offered her own “translation” — suggesting it meant Barron “pretended to play dumb while being disrespectful” and “wanted to keep our union a secret.”
The post, which was anonymous and unverified, sparked immediate outrage online. Social media users accused Kennedy of “exploiting” the young Trump for clicks. One NYU student told The Beacon, “It’s weird that a grown adult is digging through dating gossip about a teenager. Whatever people think of his dad, Barron deserves privacy.”
Barron, who has largely stayed out of the public eye since his father’s inauguration in January, has reportedly opted to take NYU classes remotely from Washington, D.C., where he now lives at the White House.
His mother, Melania Trump, admitted in a 2024 Fox interview that her son’s college experience would be “different than any other kid.”
“I don’t think it’s possible for him to be a normal student,” she said then. “His life is very different now.”
The younger Trump’s brief appearances have mostly been tied to family events or his father’s political rallies, where he’s been described by aides as “reserved but tech-savvy.” Earlier this week, reports surfaced that a former Trump campaign staffer floated the idea of Barron joining TikTok’s board — a move that raised eyebrows given his father’s past hostility toward the app’s Chinese ownership.
The White House declined to comment on Kennedy’s column, but political analysts called it a troubling new sign of how the Trump media machine now eats its own.
“Right-wing infotainment has become a self-sustaining scandal ecosystem,” said Georgetown media professor Dr. Lila Harris. “They’re so used to tearing down their enemies that they’ve started turning on each other — and now, even the president’s son isn’t off-limits.”
For now, Barron Trump hasn’t responded publicly to the rumors — and most observers seem to think he shouldn’t have to.
“He’s 19, not a political operative,” said one former White House aide. “If Fox can’t tell the difference between a news story and a teenager’s dating life, that says a lot about where we are as a country.”
