A routine Sunday shopping trip turned into a terrifying scene outside a Costco in Davie, Florida, when an argument between two men spiraled into violence and ended with a gunshot.

The clash, captured on cellphone video by a bystander, shows two men throwing punches in the crowded parking lot while stunned shoppers look on. The fight began when one driver accused the other of blowing through a stop sign.

“You didn’t stop!” one man can be heard yelling, just before the confrontation escalated. Moments later, witnesses said, a gun was drawn and a single bullet blasted into a tire, sending parents clutching their kids and panicked shoppers scrambling for cover.

The driver of the black SUV involved in the altercation, who identified himself only as Scott, said he was unarmed that day but usually carries a concealed weapon.

“It’s not that I wasn’t threatened by it. It’s just that if you pull a gun, you’re going to have to use it. As simple as that,” Scott told local reporters. “My teacher taught me, you pull the gun, there should be one less person on the earth.”

Scott admitted that the outcome could have been far deadlier had he been armed himself. “If I had my firearm on my hip, he would not have gone and got his. Cuz there would have been a shoot-out.”

Families leaving Costco described the chaos as surreal — the kind of violence they worry has become more common under Florida’s new gun laws.

“The new law in Florida, now we can carry a gun, everybody can walk with a gun,” said shopper Eder Dorne. “It’s scary to think this can happen anywhere.”

Another witness, Jenny Aranov, said she no longer feels safe bringing her children to shop. “Every little action, someone gets a little crazy and they decide to take a gun and shoot. I don’t feel safe at all,” she said.

Florida lawmakers expanded gun rights earlier this year by making it easier for residents to carry firearms without permits — a move celebrated by supporters of the Second Amendment but criticized by police groups and community advocates.

Public safety experts have warned the law could fuel exactly the kind of confrontations seen in Davie. “What starts as a minor road dispute can escalate to deadly force when firearms are involved,” said one Miami-based criminologist contacted by our newsroom.

Davie police confirmed one man was taken into custody at the scene, though they have not released his name or the charges he faces. Officers said no one was physically injured, but they are reviewing the video and interviewing witnesses.

The investigation remains active, and police urged shoppers to come forward with any additional footage.

  1. Packing a pistol comes with tremendous responsibility. Frivolous arguments are not something to be settled with a firearm, they are for protection from bodily harm .

    1. The problem isn’t the number of guns but the number of Democrat stoners out of their minds!
The Democrat stoners/junkies murder 75 people DAILY!
