MAGA Columnist Calls for “Blood in the Streets”

The Republican Party’s war of words turned even darker Friday when a prominent MAGA columnist openly called for violence—going so far as to demand “blood in the streets.”

Geoffrey Ingersoll, editor-at-large of the far-right website Daily Caller, published a column titled “Enough Is Enough… I Choose VIOLENCE!” in which he dispensed with any pretense of metaphor. “Today, I choose violence. Literally,” Ingersoll wrote. “Is this a call for violence? Yes. Explicitly it is.”

The piece, which was emailed directly to subscribers of the site’s “State of the Day” newsletter, invoked images of conservatives hiring ex-convicts to dole out “drubbings” and justified attacking a “fat [B]lack woman” at a protest.

Even by the standards of MAGA media, the rhetoric was stunning.

The Daily Caller, co-founded by Tucker Carlson and now partially owned by Omeed Malik—an ally of Donald Trump Jr.—has long been a vehicle for provocative content. But Ingersoll’s column marks one of the clearest calls yet for physical violence by someone in the conservative press.

Ingersoll, a former Marine public affairs writer who once studied journalism at NYU, has led the outlet for more than a decade. His reputation inside Washington is as a brawler in print, not on the battlefield. He lives in a wealthy D.C. suburb with his wife and children.

The Daily Caller later tacked on an editor’s note claiming the essay was “hypothetical” and rooted in “self-defense.” But Ingersoll left little ambiguity. “She gets instantly clotheslined. I don’t care if police are present. Do it anyway. In fact, be wildly disproportionate,” he wrote about protesters.

The rhetoric comes at a moment of heightened tension. Just weeks ago, Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk was assassinated during a campaign stop in Utah, while a separate gunman opened fire on an ICE facility in Dallas. President Donald Trump has seized on those tragedies to paint the left as violent extremists.

“Bad things happen when the radical left plays these games,” Trump told reporters Thursday. “The right is a lot tougher than the left. They better not get them energized.”

Historians and security experts warn that this kind of talk from the White House and its media allies risks inflaming an already volatile political climate. “We’ve seen where this road leads—January 6 is still fresh in Americans’ minds,” said Lawrence Freedman, a professor of war studies in London. “Calls for violence by influential voices all but guarantee more bloodshed.”

Conservatives have spent weeks accusing Democrats of fueling unrest in the wake of Kirk’s assassination. But critics note the glaring hypocrisy. For years, Trump himself has played with violent imagery—from telling rallygoers to “knock the crap” out of protesters to warning of a “bloodbath” if he lost re-election.

Now, Ingersoll’s piece reads less like provocation and more like a battle plan. “The time to go as lambs to the slaughter is OVER,” he declared.

Democratic lawmakers quickly denounced the essay. “This is not free speech. This is incitement,” said Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD). “Every time MAGA leaders excuse or amplify these calls, they push us closer to another January 6.”

As the 2026 midterms loom, America finds itself staring down an uncomfortable reality: violent rhetoric has gone mainstream in Trump’s America.

Whether Ingersoll’s words remain in the realm of bluster—or spark real-world attacks—may depend less on his readers than on the president himself. “When the commander-in-chief talks about the ‘toughness’ of his supporters,” said political analyst Maria Cardona, “some people will hear that as a green light.”

For now, the country waits uneasily, wondering if words will again spill into violence on the streets of America.
