Teen Golf Star Dies Suddenly During Homecoming Prank

A Georgia high school is in shock after 17-year-old golf standout Hadden Kelly collapsed and died suddenly during a homecoming prank with friends.

Kelly, a junior at Dodge County High School, had been out “TPing” a yard Monday morning when he was found unresponsive around 9 a.m. He was rushed to the hospital but tragically pronounced dead soon after, according to his great-uncle, Dodge County Coroner Joe Smith.

The cause of death has not yet been determined, and an autopsy is pending. Smith said the loss is devastating, calling his nephew “a jam-up golfer” who had the potential to go pro.

Kelly was considered one of the school’s top athletes and was preparing for the upcoming state tournament. The Georgia State Golf Association records show he placed fifth at the Regional Qualifier in June and tied for sixth at the Western Georgia Junior Classic in July.

Tributes from classmates, coaches, and friends have poured in. His golf team shared a moving statement online: “He was our top performing golfer with an infectious, goal-driven mindset. Even when he finished first, he stayed until the last match to support his teammates. That’s the kind of person he was.”

Dodge County High School also expressed heartbreak, writing that Kelly is “gone from our sight, but never our hearts.” Neighboring schools have extended condolences, showing just how far his impact reached.

For a community that watched him rise through tournaments with both talent and humility, Kelly’s sudden death feels almost unthinkable. Now, friends and family are left remembering a young man who left behind both an impressive record and a reputation for kindness.
