President Donald Trump, 79, is facing growing scrutiny over his health — and his latest attempt to silence rumors that he’s dead only added fuel to the fire.
Trump vanished from public view for nearly a week, setting off an online frenzy. Speculation over his health had been mounting for months, with viral images showing his swollen ankles, visible hand bruising, unsteady gait, and a string of mental lapses.
Google searches for “Is Trump dead?” and “Trump health” surged over the weekend, while “Trump is dead” trended at No. 1 on X Saturday morning.
On Sunday, Trump posted a photo on Truth Social showing himself golfing alongside disgraced former NFL coach Jon Gruden.
“Great playing Golf with Jon Gruden — A really nice guy, and true character!” Trump wrote.
But there was just one problem: the photo wasn’t new.
Within hours, online sleuths uncovered an Aug. 23 Instagram post showing Gruden in the exact same outfit. Associated Press footage from that same day confirmed Trump was also wearing identical clothes, proving the “proof of life” image was at least 10 days old.
“It’s classic Trump,” political analyst Sofia Ramirez told MSNBC. “He tried to squash speculation but ended up making it worse. When your proof of life needs proof, you’ve got a credibility problem.”
Initially, Trump allies rushed to mock the rumors. MAGA influencer Charlie Kirk blasted the media on X, writing, “It’s been sick watching the press salivate at the idea of President Trump being dead.”
Another right-wing commentator, David J. Freeman — known online as “Gunther Eagleman” — claimed Trump was “at the TOP OF HIS GAME!”
But after Democrats exposed the photo’s true date, Trump’s defenders went silent.
The incident highlights a growing concern: transparency over the health of the oldest sitting president in U.S. history. Trump has avoided releasing recent medical records, fueling bipartisan calls for more disclosure.
“Americans deserve to know if the president is fit to lead,” Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD) said Monday. “If everything is fine, why hide it?”
While Trump loyalists dismiss the speculation as “fake news,” even some within his own party are privately worried. One senior Republican strategist, speaking anonymously, admitted:
“This is starting to remind people of late-stage Reagan — short public appearances, long absences, carefully staged images. That’s not sustainable in a 24/7 news cycle.”
For now, the mystery deepens. Trump remains silent, except for old photos.
