Disturbing leaked footage has surfaced online showing convicted Idaho killer Bryan Kohberger pacing in his prison cell with what appear to be red, irritated hands—sparking an investigation into how the video made it out of the maximum-security facility.

The unsettling 10-second clip, which appeared on social media Thursday, shows Kohberger in his prison uniform walking toward a wire rack, carefully setting an item down, and then staring at his crimson hands before standing motionless for several seconds.

Kohberger, 30, has reportedly developed a compulsive handwashing habit behind bars, scrubbing so often that his skin becomes raw and red. In another short leaked video, he can be seen standing in the middle of his cell, slowly cleaning his shoes in eerie silence.

Officials at the Idaho Maximum Security Institution in Kuna, where Kohberger is serving four life sentences, confirmed they are investigating the leaked footage. The clips appear to have been filmed on a cellphone from a surveillance monitor inside the prison.

“We are aware of the videos circulating online and are investigating the matter,” the Idaho Department of Correction said Friday. “If verified, they represent a clear violation of policy, and those responsible will face disciplinary action up to and including termination. We also caution that some videos may be fake or AI-enhanced.”

Correction officials stressed that staff have been repeatedly reminded that sharing security footage is prohibited, warning that criminal charges could follow if the leak is confirmed.

Kohberger avoided the death penalty last month by striking a surprise plea deal just weeks before his trial was set to begin. He admitted to murdering University of Idaho students Xana Kernodle, Kaylee Goncalves, Madison Mogen, and Ethan Chapin inside their off-campus Moscow home on November 13, 2022. The deal left the victims’ families enraged, still searching for answers about why their loved ones were brutally killed.

  1. He shouldn’t have gotten a life saving deal without explaining WHY he did it… so similar can be prevented…
