Democratic Politician Says FBI Wants Him Dead

In a fiery and emotional speech Friday, newly re-seated Washington, D.C., Ward 8 Councilmember Trayon White accused the FBI of not just targeting him for arrest — but plotting to kill him.

Speaking at his swearing-in ceremony after a controversial political comeback, White said he believes the federal government is waging a personal war against him, one fueled by intimidation and fear.

“You know the FBI is after me,” White told the crowd. “Not just to arrest me — I believe they want to kill me. Fear and God cannot occupy the same space. You’re gonna have one or the other.”

The FBI declined to comment.

A Political Resurrection in the Middle of a Storm

White, 40, had been forced out of the D.C. Council earlier this year after federal prosecutors accused him of taking thousands in bribes from a city contractor — allegations bolstered, according to court filings, by video of him pocketing envelopes stuffed with cash. He has pleaded not guilty and maintains that the case is a politically motivated hit job.

The charges come at a time when the Trump administration’s Department of Justice has been accused by Democrats and civil rights advocates of weaponizing federal law enforcement against political opponents. White’s stunning allegation that agents want him dead throws gasoline on that already raging fire.

“This is exactly the kind of intimidation we’re seeing nationwide,” said Malik Jefferson, a D.C.-based civil rights attorney not connected to the case. “When elected officials, especially Black leaders in urban communities, say they fear for their lives from the FBI — that’s a crisis of democracy.”

From Defeat to Victory — and Back in the Crosshairs

White reclaimed his seat after winning a summer special election, defeating three rivals with deep local government ties. The D.C. Board of Elections certified his victory unanimously.

Friday’s ceremony was supposed to mark a political rebirth. Instead, it became a public airing of distrust toward federal law enforcement. White even recounted a meeting he attended at a local homeowner’s property — only for that homeowner to later tell him the FBI came knocking on their door.

“This tells you, they ain’t nothing light,” White said, shaking his head. “This is real. This is serious.”

A History of Controversy

White, first elected to the D.C. Council in 2016, has long been a polarizing figure. He’s known for fiery speeches and a deep connection to Ward 8’s working-class residents, many of whom see him as one of the few politicians who understands their struggles.

Supporters say his downfall is the result of targeted political prosecution under President Trump’s Justice Department. Critics argue that the bribery evidence is damning and that his rhetoric about the FBI is dangerously inflammatory.

“He talks about the investments he says he brought to Ward 8,” noted Washington Informer reporter Sam P.K. Collins. “But now, it’s a fight not just for political survival — it’s a fight for his freedom, and apparently, his life.”

What’s Next

White’s federal bribery trial is set for January 2026. If convicted, he could face years in prison — and another removal from the Council.

Until then, his supporters promise to stand by him. “You got a champion in me,” White told his constituents Friday. “You got a warrior in me. You got a fighter in me. You got love in me.”

Whether that fighter can survive a legal battle against the full weight of the Trump-era Justice Department — and an FBI he says wants him dead — remains to be seen.
