Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are firing back—hard—over jaw-dropping new claims published by the Daily Mail, including a reported fistfight between Harry and Prince Andrew and crude remarks allegedly made about Meghan.
According to Newsweek, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have now called in the lawyers, sending a legal letter to the Mail demanding a retraction after excerpts from a new book hit the press.
The book at the center of the storm, Entitled by royal biographer Andrew Lownie, portrays Prince Andrew as arrogant, sex-obsessed, and wildly out of touch. But what’s really ignited the Sussex camp is a shocking scene described in the book: a supposed 2013 family brawl in which Harry allegedly punched Andrew over comments made behind his back.
Lownie claims that Harry accused Andrew of being a coward, then decked him, leaving Andrew with a bloody nose before the fight was broken up. The book goes on to claim Andrew later called Meghan an “opportunist,” said her marriage to Harry would last less than a month, and mocked Harry for not doing “due diligence” into her past.
Not so fast, says Harry’s legal team.
“These are gross inaccuracies, damaging and defamatory,” a spokesperson for the couple told Newsweek. “I can confirm a legal letter from Prince Harry’s counsel has been sent to the Mail.”
They added, “Prince Harry and Prince Andrew have never had a physical fight, nor did Prince Andrew ever make the comments he is alleged to have made about the Duchess of Sussex to Prince Harry.”
Though Harry and Meghan filed multiple lawsuits between 2019 and 2022—winning some and dropping others—this marks the first time in years the couple has formally threatened legal action. If it escalates into a full-blown lawsuit, it would signal a return to the aggressive media strategy they appeared to be moving away from.
So far, Prince Andrew has remained silent. No word from Buckingham Palace either.
As for the book, it’s clear that Lownie didn’t hold back. In addition to the now-contested brawl, he paints a brutal picture of the Queen’s scandal-ridden second son, describing him as a man drunk on power, plagued by poor judgment, and alienated from most of his family.
Whether or not the Sussexes take this battle to court remains to be seen. But one thing’s clear: Prince Harry isn’t letting this story slide without a fight—this time, a legal one.
