In a move that was supposed to shake Washington to its core, President Trump demanded the release of secret grand jury testimony from the Jeffrey Epstein investigation. But new court filings reveal the Justice Department’s big reveal is little more than a rehash of what the public already knows—sparking outrage among Democrats and fueling suspicions about the administration’s motives.

Attorney General Pam Bondi, already on thin ice with Trump loyalists, now faces open revolt from the president’s base after the Department of Justice admitted in a bombshell court filing that the long-awaited transcripts from the Epstein case contain “nothing new.”

“Frankly, the American people deserve better than recycled headlines,” said Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD) in a statement to reporters. “Once again, this administration is treating transparency like a game of smoke and mirrors.”

According to the Justice Department, only two witnesses ever testified before the grand juries investigating Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell: an FBI agent, and a New York Police Department detective, who also served on the FBI’s Child Exploitation and Human Trafficking Task Force. Both are still employed in law enforcement.

Their testimony, the DOJ concedes, was largely hearsay—mainly summarizing statements already made by victims and later revealed in open court. “Much of this material was already made public at Maxwell’s trial,” the DOJ’s filing reads.

The president’s decision to demand the unsealing of these transcripts has only reignited scrutiny of his own relationship with Epstein, which spanned more than 15 years. Despite repeated questioning, Trump has yet to offer a convincing explanation for the abrupt end of their friendship in the early 2000s.

“Trump wants to look like a truth-teller, but instead he’s reminding the country of the questions he’s never answered about Epstein,” said one former DOJ official, speaking on condition of anonymity.

The filing admits that the DOJ didn’t even consult most victims before seeking to unseal the grand jury testimony. Advocates say this is just the latest example of survivors being sidelined for political theater.

“Victims deserve to be heard, not used as props in a partisan game,” said lawyer Lisa Bloom, who has represented several Epstein survivors. “This administration seems more concerned with optics than justice.”

In a final twist, the Justice Department acknowledged it would have to redact personal details of any third parties not formally accused—prompting speculation that the real secrets remain hidden, despite Trump’s grandstanding.

As for the president, critics say his attempts to score political points with the Epstein case have only underscored his administration’s lack of transparency and deep discomfort with his own history.

“It’s the same old Trump playbook: promise bombshells, deliver duds, and hope the public isn’t paying attention,” said Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA).

For all the fireworks promised, the “blockbuster” testimony looks like another fizzle—and President Trump’s Epstein headache isn’t going away anytime soon.
