A horrific tragedy unfolded in Dhaka, Bangladesh, on Monday when a Bangladesh Air Force jet crashed into a college campus, killing at least 19 people and injuring over 100 more, according to emergency officials.

The jet slammed into Milestone School and College in the Diabari neighborhood of northern Dhaka, marking the deadliest air disaster the country has seen in years. Many of the victims were students, with at least 83 survivors—some critically injured—being treated at hospitals across the capital, a spokesperson for interim leader Muhammad Yunus confirmed.

The pilot of the aircraft was among those killed, according to reports from the Associated Press.

Witnesses described a chaotic and heartbreaking scene as crowds rushed toward the crash site, where firefighters worked frantically to put out flames engulfing the shattered remains of the plane.

In response to the tragedy, the government declared a national day of mourning, with state media reporting that special prayers will be held for the victims and their families.

“I express my deep grief and sorrow over the tragic incident,” Yunus wrote in a message on X. “This is a moment of profound pain for the nation. I pray for the speedy recovery of the injured and urge all authorities to act with urgency.”

This story is still developing and will be updated as more details emerge.
