A calm, reflective Fourth of July message from Kamala Harris has ignited a firestorm on the political right—and reignited rumors that the former vice president may not be done with national politics just yet.

Posting on X Friday morning, Harris shared a photo of herself and husband Doug Emhoff, writing:

“I am taking a moment to reflect. Things are hard right now. They are probably going to get worse before they get better.”

“I love our country—and when you love something, you fight for it. Together, we will continue to fight for the ideals of our nation.”

The post was unremarkable to many. But within hours, prominent Trump allies and far-right influencers were spinning her words as a call to arms for 2028—and mocking her tone in ways critics called sexist and juvenile.

Gunther Eagleman, a pro-Trump influencer notorious for pushing misinformation, sneered, “Is Kamala drunk?”—a jab referencing a baseless conspiracy theory about Harris and alcohol.

Trump adviser Chris LaCivita responded with more venom: “Oh please—someone get her another fifth.”

And Babylon Bee founder Seth Dillon wrote, “Taking a moment to reflect on how much worse things would have been if you’d won.”

Another viral post came from Link Lauren, a former adviser to the RFK Jr. campaign, who accused Harris of symbolically cutting President Biden and First Lady Jill Biden out of the photo. “Kamala cropping Joe out is very symbolic,” he wrote.

Kiersten Pels, a spokeswoman for the Republican National Committee, attacked the message’s tone:

“Feeling grateful we didn’t end up with a president who posts ‘things are gonna get worse’ on the Fourth of July.”

Meanwhile, MAGA attorney and former Senate aide Mike Davis sarcastically encouraged Harris to run again:

“Don’t stop fighting, Kamala. And please run again in 2028.”

A Familiar Playbook

The online reaction reflects a now-familiar strategy from the MAGA ecosystem: twist any message from a high-profile Democrat into a culture war moment. And Harris, who made history as the first woman of color to serve as vice president, remains one of the right’s favorite punching bags.

“It’s obvious they’re still afraid of her,” said Democratic strategist Liza Gutierrez. “They want to mock her, but deep down, they know she still has massive influence—especially with younger voters and women of color.”

A Sign of 2028?

Though Harris has made no public move toward a 2028 campaign, political observers say this kind of backlash might be exactly what energizes her base—and keeps her name in the conversation.

“She’s not running right now,” said political analyst Ray Chen of Georgetown University. “But she’s reminding Americans she’s still here, still fighting, and still focused on the big picture—democracy, equality, and resilience in hard times.”

For now, Harris is keeping her next moves close to the chest. But if this weekend’s backlash proves anything, it’s that she remains one of the most talked-about—and polarizing—figures in American politics. And that alone may be enough to keep her in the spotlight through 2028.

  1. Voters have already decided KamalToe couldn’t be elected dogcatcher… not able to do anything well…
    .
KamalToe: “This Fourth of July, I am taking a moment to reflect. Things are hard right now. They are probably going to get worse before they get better.”
    .
MAGA: “Things have never been better. Unemployment is low, the stock market is record high, Iran’s nuclear program has been defanged, Investment in USA jobs/businesses is exploding. DEI is on the retreat, men can no longer compete in women’s’ sports and we have an actual border. Wild fires are being put out. Illegals/criminals/murderers are being deported. Crime/murdering is dropping. Half of Canada may join the USA. Sounds like things are pretty good right now. Happy 4th of July!”

  2. The left and now Harris keep saying that times are hard but they never seem to tell us what that is or why

  3. Why was she ever even a VP of the USA? Her parents were never US citizens. They never even applied for it. You can’t even call her an anchor baby, because her parents never stayed here. Her father went back to Jamaica, the mother to Canada. Her mother took her and raised her in Canada from the age of seven.

    1. Trying to destroy America is not “loving” our country.
      Communist_Socialism is anti-American sweetheart!

  4. She can even lie about our independence really. Tell me one thing she ever did for we the people? Maybe someone needs to get her another bottle. If I recall this is the same person who wanted to take our American holidays away from us. Open mouth out comes the lies again. She can’t even hold a real rally without paying for the attendance and stars even had to get paid to attend. Kamala your not President Trump. After four years of lies and corruption do you really think you can run anything that has to do with government? Please explain to me again how you got our boarders closed and criminals off the streets? Tell me again how you actually helped working Americans? Tell me again why you actually went to Venezuela? Tell how you didn’t bail out criminals? Tell me how you controlled riots? Tell me how you saved me money? Tell me how criminal illegals were vetted and deported by you? Tell me how you can relate to the working class? Tell me again about you were born to poor people and attended public schools? Tell me again how your parents were proud to be citizens of the USA the right way? Tell me any of the five facts are true then I might and I said might give you a chance. Not!

  5. “She’s not running right now,” said political analyst Ray Chen of Georgetown University. “But she’s reminding Americans she’s still here, still fighting, and still focused on the big picture—democracy, equality, and resilience in hard times.”

The first thing that comes to mind when considering
Ka-Ma-La as a 2028 candidate, where did a considerable percentage of the 2024 campaign’s Billion with a ‘B’ $$ go, and how’d her campaign end up with a $20,000,000 deficit? America didn’t dodge a bullet with her defeat; we dodged a missile.
