In a stunning revelation decades in the making, nearly 1,500 pages of previously classified CIA documents suggest that Robert F. Kennedy was entangled with U.S. intelligence operations long before — and possibly even during — the time of his tragic assassination.
The documents, quietly declassified under an executive order from President Donald Trump, paint a disturbing picture of Cold War-era espionage, failed assassination plots, and a possible government cover-up surrounding RFK’s 1968 murder.
Shadow Games and Poisoned Ice Cubes
Among the most explosive details? A CIA-backed plan to poison Cuban leader Fidel Castro using tainted ice cubes — a scheme linked to a high-level Mafia figure who allegedly controlled every ice machine on the Las Vegas Strip.
“This wasn’t spy fiction. It was official CIA strategy,” said a former intelligence analyst familiar with the operation, speaking on condition of anonymity. “They partnered with mob bosses and dreamed up ideas straight out of a Bond film.”
The documents also show that long before he became a presidential candidate, RFK cooperated with the CIA following a 1955 trip to the Soviet Union. In what appears to be a voluntary debriefing, he shared his observations with the agency — an early indication of the deep and complicated ties between the Kennedy family and U.S. intelligence circles.
A Botched Investigation?
RFK was gunned down at Los Angeles’ Ambassador Hotel on June 5, 1968, shortly after winning the California Democratic primary. Officially, the lone gunman was Sirhan B. Sirhan — who remains behind bars to this day.
But a psychological evaluation of Sirhan, dated just one month after the shooting, now casts doubt on that conclusion. The report — part of the declassified materials — describes Sirhan as psychologically incapable of participating in a conspiracy, let alone carrying out an assassination under specific instructions.
“Under no circumstances would we have predicted that Sirhan was capable of doing what he did,” the assessment reads. “It is very unlikely that he could have effectively acted under precise instructions.”
To Leon Wagener, a presidential historian who has spent decades researching RFK’s killing, the assessment raises red flags.
“It reads like a cover memo designed to close the case before it ever began,” Wagener told us. “The CIA wanted local law enforcement to stop asking questions.”
Why Would the CIA Want Kennedy Gone?
For many on the left, the lingering question isn’t whether there was a conspiracy — but why. The documents hint at a dark motivation: fear.
RFK’s rise as a peace candidate in 1968 alarmed Washington insiders and agency operatives who believed he would reopen the investigation into the 1963 assassination of his brother, President John F. Kennedy.
“There were powerful people terrified that Bobby Kennedy would expose everything,” Wagener said. “If elected, he would have dismantled the CIA brick by brick.”
RFK’s commitment to exposing corruption and reigning in Cold War overreach made him a dangerous figure to entrenched interests. Whether that fear played a direct role in his death remains unclear — but the declassified documents suggest Americans still don’t know the full story.
Demands for a New Investigation
With the new documents raising fresh questions, calls are growing louder for a modern, independent investigation.
“It’s time to reopen the case,” said Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD) in a statement following the release. “We owe the American people transparency, not half-truths from the Cold War vault.”
RFK’s son, presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr., has long expressed doubts about the official narrative.
“My father was killed by forces bigger than Sirhan Sirhan,” he said at a recent campaign stop. “Now the truth is finally leaking out.”
As America enters another heated election cycle, the past is once again knocking at the door — and demanding answers.

the truth needs to be out.
“…Sirhan as psychologically incapable of participating in a conspiracy, let alone carrying out an assassination under specific instructions.” I’ve read some nonsense before… but…
.
Every day is more reason to be glad we have Good Trump running things now… again…
JFK then RFK official versions never made good sense. Conspiracy theories abound because of lies and coverups. I hope truth will be fully told. And in a firm we can all access or read such as a book with all the actual records.
