A quiet Saturday morning was shattered by a thunderous explosion outside a fertility clinic in Palm Springs—now officially labeled an “intentional act of terrorism” by the FBI.

At 11 a.m., a vehicle exploded in the parking lot of the American Reproductive Centers on Indian Canyon Drive. The blast rocked nearby buildings, ignited fires, and sent shrapnel and glass flying more than two football fields in every direction. One person was killed instantly. Four others were injured.

The FBI says the target was clear.

“Make no mistake, this is an intentional act of terrorism,” said Akil Davis, assistant director of the FBI’s Los Angeles Field Office. “And we believe the clinic itself was deliberately targeted.”

Caught on Camera?

One witness made a chilling discovery after the blast: a camera on a tripod pointed directly at the explosion site. He immediately turned it over to authorities.

“It was the loudest thing I’ve heard since a fighter jet crash I witnessed in Tucson,” the witness said. “Terrorism came knocking on the door of Palm Springs. But this city will rise.”

Suspect Dead or On the Run?

While law enforcement sources say the person killed in the blast is likely the suspect, the FBI is treading carefully.

“We’re not prepared to confirm the identity of the deceased or their connection to our person of interest at this time,” Davis said.

When pressed, he added, “We are not actively searching for a suspect right now.”

A Crime Scene Measured in Yards, Not Feet

Palm Springs Police Chief Andy Mills said the blast left a 250-yard debris field and partially collapsed a nearby structure. Streets were shut down, and residents were urged to stay away as bomb squads swept the area for secondary devices.

“We feared additional explosives might be nearby,” Mills said. “This is one of the largest bombing crime scenes we’ve ever had to secure.”

Federal Forces Swarm the Scene

The FBI, ATF, and local bomb technicians are now conducting a painstaking investigation. Agents also searched a property in Twentynine Palms believed to be connected to the case—though officials declined to confirm a direct link.

Davis compared the Palm Springs bombing to the infamous 2018 Aliso Viejo spa explosion, another case of targeted domestic terrorism in Southern California.

Clinic Responds: “Shaken but Not Stopped”

Despite the devastation just outside its doors, the American Reproductive Centers of Palm Springs will reopen Monday.

“Eggs, embryos, staff—everyone and everything inside the clinic was safe,” ARC stated. “We’re heartbroken that a life was lost, but we remain committed to our mission. This moment has shaken us—but it has not stopped us.”

Leaders React

California Gov. Gavin Newsom and Attorney General Pam Bondi were both briefed on the bombing.

“Violence against a fertility clinic is unforgivable,” Bondi said in a statement. “Federal agents are on the ground. We will get to the bottom of this.”

Newsom’s office confirmed that the state’s emergency services team is working alongside federal authorities.

What’s Next

The Palm Springs Police Department will hold another press conference at 10 a.m. Sunday. Federal agencies continue to process what’s now being called one of the largest bombing investigations in Southern California’s recent history.

This is a developing story.
