James Comey Surrenders to Secret Service After ‘Assassination’ Post

Former FBI Director James Comey is once again at the center of MAGA-world hysteria—and this time, it’s over a pile of seashells.

On Friday morning, Comey was seen quietly slipping into a black Secret Service SUV outside his Virginia home and being whisked away to Washington, D.C. According to CNN, the trip was to discuss a recent Instagram post that right-wing figures claim is a coded assassination threat against President Donald Trump.

The now-deleted photo, which Comey said he stumbled upon during a beach walk, showed seashells spelling out “86 47.” Trump supporters immediately interpreted the message as a violent call to “assassinate the 47th president”—a leap that even conservative legal experts have called “unhinged.”

Comey responded with a follow-up post:

“I saw these seashells arranged on the beach and assumed it was a political message. I didn’t realize some folks associate those numbers with violence.”

But that explanation wasn’t enough for Trump, who took to Fox News to accuse Comey of deliberate provocation.

“That was an assassination message,” Trump claimed during a sit-down with host Bret Baier. “He knew what he was doing. Everybody knows what ‘86 47’ means.”

For the record, they don’t.

The Numbers Game

While MAGA media scoured Urban Dictionary for conspiracy fuel, Merriam-Webster’s actual definition of “86” includes “to throw out,” “to reject,” or “to get rid of”—common restaurant slang for “we’re out of that.” It has never been recognized as a term for murder in formal legal or law enforcement contexts.

Still, conservative lawmakers and pundits joined Trump in his outrage. Rep. James Comer claimed Comey was “trying to jizz up some type of coup,” a phrase that raised more eyebrows than it answered questions.

Kayleigh McEnany, Trump’s former press secretary, doubled down on Fox News, alleging “clear violent intent” in the seashells—relying once again on user-submitted slang definitions over actual law.

But progressive voices weren’t having it.

Actor Billy Baldwin blasted the hysteria on X, formerly Twitter:

“I’ve been saying ‘Let’s 86 this nightclub’ since I was 12. It means get outta here. Not kill anybody.”

“I agree with Comey… 86 Trump stat. MAGA in meltdown mode over seashells while calling for Pelosi’s death and Pence’s hanging? Get the f*** outta here.”

A Manufactured Crisis

Legal experts say there’s zero evidence Comey violated any law. The Secret Service meeting, described as “standard procedure,” was reportedly requested by Comey himself to clarify the misunderstanding and avoid further politicization.

Behind the smoke and fire is a familiar pattern: Trump world grasping at shadows, attempting to weaponize public discourse to distract from ongoing legal woes and sagging approval ratings. Comey, who led the FBI’s probe into Trump’s 2016 Russia ties before being fired, has long been a favorite target of MAGA rage.

But this time, it’s not about investigations or indictments—it’s about seashells.

And the spectacle only proves one thing: the Trump-aligned right can find a “deep state” conspiracy in anything, even a beach walk.
