Washington, D.C. — A single social media post has detonated a political grenade within Republican ranks, pitting the establishment against furious MAGA loyalists—over Spanish.
On Tuesday, the official House GOP Conference account on X (formerly Twitter) posted a seemingly routine message praising hard work. But it was the Spanish translation below the English version that sent right-wing activists into a frenzy.
“House Republicans believe in every American’s potential to thrive by embracing the power of work,” the post read—then came the Spanish:
“Los republicanos de la Cámara creen en el potencial de cada estadounidense para prosperar al adoptar el poder del trabajo.”
For many Trump supporters, it was betrayal in plain sight.
“What the hell is this?” exploded Texas GOP official Bo French. “Why isn’t this all in English? We’re in America.”
‘Press 2 for Outrage’
Rep. Brandon Gill (R-TX), a rising MAGA hardliner and close Trump ally, didn’t hold back either.
“Is this a joke, @HouseGOP? We represent Americans. We don’t pander in foreign languages. Speak English.”
Gill doubled down in a second post, mockingly adding: “Press 2 for English” is a losing message, @HouseGOP.
Far-right firebrand Laura Loomer, a loyalist who’s gained Trump’s ear in recent years, erupted on her own X account.
“President Trump literally signed an executive order making English the official language. Why the hell is the GOP tweeting in Spanish?”
Backlash Fueled by Trump’s Language Order
The fury follows Donald Trump’s March 1 executive order declaring English the official language of the United States.
“From the founding of our Republic, English has been used as our national language,” the order stated.
It emphasized that speaking English promotes assimilation, economic opportunity, and unity in a “shared national identity.”
Trump’s order also led to the removal of the Spanish-language version of the official White House website, which still displays a dead link reading: 404 PAGE NOT FOUND.
At the time, the White House promised to reinstate the Spanish pages—yet nearly three months later, there’s no sign of them.
“Fire Whoever Did This”
Conservative media jumped on the controversy. BlazeTV host Auron MacIntyre demanded accountability.
“Whoever is operating this account should be fired immediately.”
Others accused the GOP of virtue signaling, claiming the Spanish post was a cheap ploy to attract Latino voters at the expense of conservative values.
“English is our national language. Stop pandering. This account is a joke,” one user wrote.
The House GOP has yet to issue a statement.
A Deeper Divide in the GOP
What began as a small gesture of bilingual outreach has become the latest flashpoint in the GOP’s widening identity crisis. On one side: a party trying to broaden its base. On the other: an increasingly vocal MAGA movement determined to cling to cultural purity and “America First” principles.
And in the middle? A Spanish sentence that ignited a civil war online.
The White House declined to comment when reached Tuesday evening.

Anonymous you do know that the America name itself is a Spanish word? But if it makes you feel better Spanish language is from Spain a white European country but maybe America should be changed to the English word as America is Spanish word 😂
This is America, we speak English. capeesh learn it.
This is America speak English.
My grandparents came and learned English. If I go to another country are they. going to cater to me. No they will rip me off because I don’t know the land. I will never leave USA 🇺🇸 to visit another country. USA is my safe place
any mous capeesh is not an english word idiot. we use very few TRUE english words in america. a few of y’all are saying english only please, but you don’t mean please, you are demanding it. i speak nothing but english, therefore would never leave america. i find it somewhat disrespectful to go to a country, expecting your host to cater to your needs, but please bear in mind, many of these people escaped wars & fled to america, many at spur of the moment, trying to save their & their kids lives. no time to learn the lingo. put yourself in their places. if they aren’t fluent after 2 yrs, spank em.
