The Democratic National Committee (DNC) just sent a scorching message straight over Donald Trump’s backyard—and they did it from 10,000 feet in the air.
On Wednesday afternoon, as beachgoers and tourists looked to the skies above Palm Beach, a banner reading “Welcome to Qatar-a-Lago” circled over Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate. The not-so-subtle jab comes amid explosive backlash over the president’s recent agreement to accept a $400 million luxury jet from the authoritarian government of Qatar.
The stunt, organized and funded by the DNC, aimed to spotlight what it’s calling one of the most “brazen acts of corruption in modern presidential history.”
“Trump isn’t just cozying up to foreign billionaires—he’s literally flying their planes,” DNC Chair Ken Martin said in a press release ahead of the flyover. “He’s selling out American working families to whoever’s willing to write the biggest check.”
Trump’s $400M “Gift”: A Flying Fortress or a Trojan Horse?
The aircraft in question is a customized Boeing 747-8, nicknamed by Qatar’s own press as a “palace in the sky.” Trump has said he intends to use the jet as a temporary replacement for Air Force One, calling it a “tremendous deal for America.” But national security experts—and now even Trump’s Republican allies—aren’t buying it.
“This is the most blatant, obvious, ridiculous corruption that I’ve ever seen in my life,” said Sen. Brian Schatz (D-HI), who lit up the House floor Tuesday with a fiery condemnation. “No president should be accepting a $400 million aircraft from a foreign government. Period.”
Schatz didn’t mince words about the risk: “We’re talking about a regime with ties to extremist groups. This isn’t a gift—it’s a liability.”
Even Sen. Ted Cruz, hardly a stranger to defending Trump, joined the chorus of critics. Speaking to CNBC, Cruz warned the Qatari jet could create “massive espionage and surveillance problems,” pointing out Qatar’s history of supporting terrorist networks like Hamas and Hezbollah.
“I’m not a fan of Qatar,” Cruz admitted. “They fund lunatics who want to kill Americans.”
Trump Defiant: “The Dems are World Class Losers!”
Unsurprisingly, Trump took to Truth Social with an all-caps rebuttal. In his Sunday post, he slammed “Crooked Democrats” for turning a “transparent and generous gift” into what he called a “phony scandal.”
“The fact that the Defense Department is getting a GIFT, FREE OF CHARGE… bothers the Crooked Democrats so much they want to pay top dollar for it,” Trump fumed. “Anybody can do that! The Dems are World Class Losers!!! MAGA.”
But critics say Trump’s idea of “free” doesn’t align with national security interests or basic ethics.
“He’s not just blurring the lines between business and politics,” said ethics watchdog Sarah Teague of Citizens for Integrity. “He’s erasing them altogether.”
Florida Flyby Sparks MAGA Rage
The DNC’s aerial troll job didn’t sit well with Trump’s loyalists on the ground. One supporter, Steven Drew from North Carolina, told Reuters he was furious.
“Whoever’s flying that plane can kiss my ass,” Drew snapped. “Trump’s doing what’s best for America.”
But critics say it’s not America Trump’s serving—it’s himself.
“Trump is turning the presidency into a high-end barter system,” Martin said. “Whether it’s Qatar, Saudi Arabia, or Mar-a-Lago itself, the only interests he cares about are foreign wallets and personal perks.”
With Trump still overseas in Doha shaking hands with Emir Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the banner over Florida served as a reminder: the controversy isn’t going anywhere—just like the plane he now calls his own.
