In a development that has sparked both concern and compassion, doctors have identified a small nodule on former President Joe Biden’s prostate during a routine health screening, The New York Times confirmed.

The 82-year-old Democrat, who made history as the oldest U.S. president to serve a full term, is now undergoing further testing to determine the nature of the growth and whether it poses any medical threat. According to White House physician Dr. Kevin O’Connor, this type of finding is “not unusual” for a man of Biden’s age and does not necessarily indicate a serious condition.

“The President’s medical team is approaching this with caution and clarity,” said a source familiar with Biden’s health briefings. “He is undergoing all recommended follow-ups, and nothing alarming has been found so far.”

This is not Biden’s first encounter with health concerns. In February 2023, Dr. O’Connor disclosed that several small skin cancers had been successfully removed from Biden’s body, including a basal cell carcinoma from his chest—a common and highly treatable form of cancer. At the time, O’Connor emphasized that Biden remained “fit for duty.”

Since leaving office in January, Biden has maintained a notably lower profile. While some speculate that his public absence signals the end of his political chapter, others argue it reflects a deliberate shift to private life following decades of public service. Allies close to the former president describe him as “focused on family, rest, and legacy.”

Critics—led by former President Donald Trump—frequently attacked Biden’s stamina during his presidency. Trump’s branding of Biden as “Sleepy Joe” became a right-wing rallying cry, despite doctors repeatedly stating Biden was in “vigorous health” for his age.

Still, Biden’s supporters see these health disclosures as a sign of transparency, especially in contrast to the secrecy surrounding Trump’s own medical evaluations during his presidency. As one Democrat strategist put it: “President Biden has always been upfront about his health. The American people deserve that kind of honesty.”

Medical experts urge the public not to rush to judgment.

“Prostate nodules are incredibly common in older men,” said Dr. Andrew Feldman, a urologist at Johns Hopkins. “Many are benign. What matters is that it’s being monitored responsibly.”

Whether Biden will re-emerge with political ambitions or continue to fade into the background remains to be seen. But for now, the spotlight turns to his health—and the fact that he, like millions of aging Americans, is navigating the vulnerabilities that come with it.
