A Chicago police officer assigned to Mayor Brandon Johnson’s security team has been suspended after allegedly showing up to work intoxicated—following a day of partying at a celebration for President Donald Trump’s second inauguration.

Officer Josue Najera, 44, was scheduled for a 9 p.m. shift on January 20, the same day Trump was sworn in again. But hours earlier, Najera joined his family for a celebration at Trump Tower in downtown Chicago—a building long seen as a symbol of division in a city Trump has routinely vilified.

Internal records show Najera arrived for duty outside the mayor’s West Side home reeking of alcohol, behaving erratically, and blowing a blood alcohol content of 0.134—well over the legal driving limit and in direct violation of department policy.

“He was agitated, speaking loudly, and avoiding eye contact,” wrote Najera’s sergeant in a disciplinary report. “His behavior was uncharacteristic and erratic.”

Najera admitted to drinking at the Trump Tower gathering, reportedly telling his sergeant he had been “having fun with his family.” When pressed, he confirmed he’d been drinking that day.

The officer, who joined the force in 2017 and had no previous sustained misconduct complaints, was immediately stripped of his police powers. His service weapon was confiscated, and he was escorted to the 15th District station in Austin for questioning. He turned in his badge, ID, and shield the next day.

While a 25-day suspension was handed down, records indicate Najera has yet to serve it. He’s currently reassigned to the department’s Alternate Response Section—a desk duty role often reserved for officers under internal investigation.

Najera, who did not respond to requests for comment, lives on the Southwest Side in a precinct that backed Trump over Vice President Kamala Harris, city records show.

The timing of the incident adds fuel to ongoing tensions between Mayor Johnson’s administration and pro-Trump factions within city departments. Chicago, a consistent target of Trump’s law-and-order rhetoric, has been under renewed scrutiny in his second term. In March, Johnson testified before Congress over sanctuary city policies, and Gov. JB Pritzker is expected to follow suit this summer.

While thousands of demonstrators marched in frigid conditions outside Trump Tower on Inauguration Day, the bar inside the building hosted a festive “viewing event” from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.—though it remains unclear whether Najera attended that specific gathering.

Around 7 p.m., Najera reportedly tried to sit in a squad car to wait for his wife, who had gone to retrieve their vehicle. When a fellow officer refused, Najera bizarrely attempted to file a complaint with the 18th District station—a move that set off a chain of calls leading back to the mayor’s protective detail.

The Chicago Police Department and Mayor Johnson’s office declined to comment on the suspension, but City Hall insiders quietly expressed concern over Najera’s lapse—especially given the politically charged context of his celebration.

“Showing up drunk to a shift protecting the mayor isn’t just a lapse in judgment—it’s a danger to public safety,” said one City Council aide, speaking on condition of anonymity. “Doing so after toasting a man who’s actively working against this city? That’s a whole different level of disrespect.”

  1. So the guy was a Trump supporter and mayor is jealous. After all Pelosi is drunk all the time. Hunter was high and a pedo like his dad. Drinking wasn’t the issue. It was supporting Trump

    1. It was no big deal, as Mayor’s Security Officer, the guy was going to do NOTHING all day long, anyway.
He isn’t a Trump supporter, just attended a party in a Trump owned building.
Leave it to WOKE NextGen to weave a deceptive story… as usual…
