Trump Held a Secret Mar-a-Lago Dinner After Group War Chat

In a stunning display of secrecy and excess, President Donald Trump hosted a private “candlelight” dinner at Mar-a-Lago just hours after a U.S. military airstrike in Yemen left more than 50 people dead—many of them civilians, including children.

The March 15 bombing, carried out against Houthi forces, was reportedly greenlit by top Trump officials in a Signal group chat so sloppy, it accidentally included the editor-in-chief of The Atlantic.

Dinner After Death

According to Wired, the exclusive dinner was attended by Trump’s inner circle, including Elon Musk—who brought along his four-year-old son—as well as senior White House officials Stephen Miller and Michael Waltz. Secretary of State Marco Rubio was also spotted at the Florida club that weekend. The price tag for a seat? A jaw-dropping $1 million.

While the White House offered no public statement on the dinner, one source close to the administration told Wired, “It was a celebration. They were toasting the strike.”

That same night, social media users captured footage of Trump dancing to ‘YMCA’ in a white tuxedo under chandelier lights while the news of the bombing began trickling in overseas.

War Chat Blunder

More disturbing than the optics of a $1M dinner during a military operation, however, is how the strike was allegedly planned.

The group chat on the encrypted Signal app included Waltz, Rubio, Miller, and others—until someone accidentally added The Atlantic’s Jeffrey Goldberg. According to Goldberg, he remained in the chat long enough to see officials congratulating one another before being removed.

“Amazing job,” Waltz reportedly texted after the attack.

“Good job Pete and your team!!” Rubio added, referring to Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth.

Perhaps the most telling message came from Waltz again: “The team in MAL did a great job too.”

Experts in military ethics and national security say the casual nature of the discussion—and the use of a private messaging app for what appears to be classified military planning—could represent a violation of multiple federal security protocols.

“This isn’t just bad form. It’s dangerous,” said former Pentagon official Lisa McCree. “They were discussing lethal operations like they were ordering DoorDash.”

A Pattern of Secrecy

The episode is the latest in a long line of concerns surrounding Trump’s handling of sensitive information. During his time out of office, he was hit with 40 felony charges tied to the mishandling of classified documents, many of which were discovered at Mar-a-Lago.

Though a judge dismissed the case in mid-2024 on technical grounds—ruling Special Counsel Jack Smith’s appointment unconstitutional—the Justice Department opted not to pursue further legal action after Trump reclaimed the White House in November, citing its longstanding policy against prosecuting sitting presidents.

Former intelligence officers say the decision only reinforces fears about unchecked power in the executive branch.

“Let’s be honest,” said McCree. “If this had been any other president, we’d be talking about impeachment hearings right now.”
