The entertainment world is saying goodbye to a true Las Vegas original. Norm Clarke, the iconic reporter known for chronicling the city’s glitz, glam, and celebrity gossip, has passed away at 82.

Clarke died this past Thursday at Nathan Adelson Hospice, just over a week after being admitted. While an official cause of death wasn’t released, it’s widely known that he had battled cancer for nearly 20 years.

Tributes quickly poured in, including from NFL insider Adam Schefter, who called him a “legendary reporter” in a heartfelt post on social media.

With his trademark eyepatch and unmatched Rolodex of sources, Clarke became a staple of the Las Vegas Review-Journal starting in 1999. Before that, he built his career as a sportswriter with the Associated Press, covering stories across Cincinnati, San Diego, and Los Angeles.

“Las Vegas had become the center of the universe for entertainment in many ways, and Norm wielded an awful lot of power,” said Felix Rappaport, a longtime Strip executive. “If you read something in Norm’s column, as outrageous as it might seem, you were pretty damn sure it happened.”

Clarke’s byline was behind some of the wildest and most unforgettable Vegas headlines—from Britney Spears’ infamous 55-hour marriage to Michael Jackson’s quiet move to the city. His eye for a story and instinct for drama made him a must-read and a fixture of the Vegas scene.
