The president dons MAGA gear while issuing fiery threats amid escalating Middle East tensions.
In a controversial scene underscoring his administration’s combative foreign policy, President Donald Trump watched remotely as U.S. missiles rained down on Yemen—dressed casually in a MAGA hat and his trademark Trump-branded golf shirt. White House photographs revealed the commander-in-chief monitoring the deadly airstrikes alongside Secretary of State Marco Rubio and National Security Advisor Michael Walz from an undisclosed location in Florida, likely near Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate.
Trump took to his Truth Social platform to issue fiery threats aimed directly at Yemen’s Houthi rebels, warning them: “YOUR TIME IS UP, AND YOUR ATTACKS MUST STOP, STARTING TODAY. IF THEY DON’T, HELL WILL RAIN DOWN UPON YOU LIKE NOTHING YOU HAVE EVER SEEN BEFORE!”
The Houthis, an Iranian-backed militia entrenched in Yemen’s devastating civil war, have intensified attacks against commercial ships in the Red Sea, claiming to act in support of Palestinians amid ongoing violence between Israel and Hamas. U.S. officials describe the Houthi strikes as provocations threatening international maritime trade and regional stability.
Criticism mounted domestically as Trump’s choice to oversee military operations dressed as if fresh from the golf course drew swift condemnation from Democrats. Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) called it “another shameful episode of unserious leadership,” adding that Trump “continues to trivialize human suffering for his own image.”
The bombings on Saturday night and early Sunday morning marked Trump’s first military action against Yemen during his second term. Reports from the Houthi-controlled Yemeni health ministry detailed heavy casualties: at least 32 dead and 101 injured, predominantly women and children. A Houthi spokesman immediately condemned the attack as a “blatant war crime” and promised retaliation.
Iran, the primary supporter of the Houthis, issued its own stern warning through military chief Hossein Salami, declaring that while Iran “will not wage war,” any threats against it will result in “decisive and conclusive responses.”
In an attempt to manage geopolitical fallout, Secretary Rubio reached out to Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov prior to the attacks. The Russian Foreign Ministry urged all parties to pursue immediate political dialogue to “prevent further bloodshed,” highlighting the increasingly complex web of alliances and tensions gripping the Middle East.
With Trump publicly issuing ultimatums in golf attire, critics argue the visual starkly symbolizes an administration more invested in theatrics than diplomacy.
As the world awaits the Houthi response, many fear Trump’s aggressive posture risks inflaming a volatile region even further.
