At a recent House Foreign Affairs hearing, Texas GOP Rep. Keith Self misgendered McBride—calling her “Mr. McBride” and “the gentleman from Delaware.” McBride shot back with icy precision:

“I appear to live rent-free in the minds of some of my Republican colleagues.”

Rep. Bill Keating swiftly denounced the remark. “That was out of order,” he said, asking, “Have you no decency?” The row ended abruptly when Self cut the hearing short.

At a three-day policy conference in Leesburg, Va., McBride didn’t mince words about the GOP’s fixation. “I wish they would spend even a fraction of the time they spend thinking about me—thinking about how to lower costs for American families,” she declared.
She added, “They are obsessed with culture war issues. It is weird, and it is bizarre.”

McBride remains focused on her core mission. “I’m not here to fight about bathrooms,” she stressed in a November statement. “I’m here to fight for Delawareans and to bring down the costs facing families. I will follow the rules outlined by Speaker Johnson, even if I disagree with them.”

Rep. Self defended his controversial remarks in a later interview, adding, “I mean, he is allowed to live his life—I spent 25 years on active duty defending his right to do so. But I don’t have to participate in his fantasy.”
