MSNBC is under fire. The network axed Joy Reid’s acclaimed show, The Reidout, sparking outrage among progressives. Former host Tiffany Cross is now calling for a boycott.
Cross, who led The Cross Connection from 2020 until her abrupt cancellation in 2022, is no stranger to controversy. “Don’t watch where you’re not welcome,” she warned during a recent Zoom call for the Win With Black Women podcast. “Don’t shop where they won’t hire you. Don’t even hate-watch!”
Her words echo a familiar refrain. Cross recalls her own firing after a heated clash with Fox News’ Tucker Carlson. Carlson had claimed that she was trying to spark a “race war.” That segment drew sharp criticism from the Anti-Defamation League. Soon after, her show was quietly canceled, leaving her fans and critics to question the network’s true motives.
Joy Reid’s cancellation came amid a broader shakeup at MSNBC. Several non-white voices were cut, raising concerns about diversity and fairness. Even MSNBC stalwart Rachel Maddow called the move “indefensible” on her broadcast. This has many wondering if ratings are truly the only factor—or if politics and power play a darker role.
On the same call, Reid offered heartfelt reflections on her show’s fate. Cross fired back, dismissing claims about poor ratings. “Don’t believe the hype about the ratings,” she said. “Her show was doing very well. Look at Morning Joe. They never get fired, yet they’re still being elevated.”
Critics on the left see a disturbing pattern. An MSNBC insider once blamed Cross’s firing on “repeated bad behavior” and “bad judgment.” Cross, however, maintains that the decision was clear-cut. “There are people in positions of power who do not like her opinions and truth-telling courage,” she asserted, likening her struggle to Reid’s and calling her a sister in the fight for honest discourse.
For many Democrats, this is about more than ratings. It is a stand against silencing progressive voices. Cross’s call for a boycott is a plea to reclaim a space where diverse opinions are not only welcomed—they are essential.
The controversy continues to evolve. For now, many viewers are left to ask: In a world of corporate media, who truly gets to decide whose voice is heard?
