Soni Dimond, a cherished figure in local television and the vibrant voice behind Good Day PA, passed away unexpectedly on December 27 at the age of 67. The cause was cardiac arrest. Her passing has left colleagues, friends, and fans mourning the loss of a personality whose energy and charisma lit up screens and hearts alike.
Dimond began her career in broadcast journalism as an intern at WTPA-TV 27 in 1978. Just one year later, she broke barriers by becoming the station’s first weekend news anchor. Over the next decade, her dynamic on-air presence made her a household name.
In the 1980s, Dimond transitioned to entrepreneurship, founding Soni Dimond Media, a public relations and lifestyle firm. Her innovative work in media and business earned her the prestigious “Best 50 Women in Business in Pennsylvania” award in 2003.
Despite her success in business, Dimond’s passion for storytelling and connecting with her audience drew her back to television in 2018. She joined Good Day PA as a part-time host, where she also launched Vibrant Living, a segment that inspired seniors to embrace life to the fullest.
Amy Kehm, Dimond’s co-host on Good Day PA, described her as a force of nature. “The concept of Vibrant Living was all hers,” Kehm shared. “That’s exactly how she lived—vibrantly. I’m a better person for knowing Soni. Her name couldn’t have been more fitting; she truly shone like a diamond.”
George Stockburger, Executive Digital Producer at ABC27, recalled her elegance and energy. “Every time Soni entered the studio, she brought a sense of glamor and life. Her positivity was infectious.”
Dimond’s self-description on ABC27’s website reflected her zest for life: “As a 60-something ‘Queenager,’ I inspire and motivate others to live every day to the fullest.” She collaborated closely with her husband, Kevin Martorana, through their production company, Take One Productions, Inc., in Lancaster, Pennsylvania.
Condolences poured in on social media as fans and coworkers remembered Dimond’s warmth and vibrant personality. ABC27 reporter Sarah Willson wrote, “A sad day here at ABC27. Our friend and colleague Soni Dimond passed away this morning. She was vibrant, loving, and passionate. She will be deeply missed.”
A viewer commented on social media, “Gone too soon. Soni reminded us to live with joy and purpose. Rest in peace.”
Dimond is survived by her husband, Kevin Martorana, and countless friends and admirers whose lives she touched. Her legacy continues through her contributions to media, her inspirational messaging, and the indelible mark she left on everyone who knew her.
Soni Dimond’s passing is a reminder to cherish the present and embrace life with the vibrancy she exemplified.
