A mass shooting in Towson, Baltimore County, Maryland, has left one person dead and nine others injured. The incident occurred on Tuesday, December 17, shortly before 7:15 p.m., and was confirmed by the Baltimore County Police Department via a post on X (formerly Twitter).

Authorities responded to the 8500 block of Loch Raven Boulevard in Towson after receiving multiple reports of gunfire. Upon arrival, officers found a vehicle on its side and in flames. Police later confirmed that multiple victims had been injured and were rushed to local hospitals.

Baltimore County Police Chief Robert McCullough stated at a press conference that while the shooting “appears to be intentional” and the individuals involved likely knew each other, there was “no ongoing threat to the public.” McCullough also mentioned that the crash and subsequent fire may have been part of the incident, and investigators are looking into the circumstances surrounding it.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) was also on the scene, and Baltimore County Executive Johnny Olszewski called the event a “shocking tragedy.” He assured that the community would receive all necessary resources to handle the aftermath.

Olszewski expressed his disbelief, saying, “These types of incidents are really unheard of here, so it really shocks the conscience.”

At this time, the Baltimore County Police Department has not provided additional information on the investigation.
