José de la Torre, the Spanish actor best known for his role in Netflix’s Toy Boy, has tragically passed away at the age of 37. His death occurred on Thursday, December 5, with a funeral service held just a day later in Spain, as reported by Montilla Digital, Variety, and the New York Post. The cause of death has not been disclosed, but it comes months after de la Torre revealed in June that he had been diagnosed with a “serious illness.”

The actor, who had previously shared his health struggles on social media, had appeared to step back from public life following his announcement. His final Instagram post, dated June 3, showed him celebrating the Barceló Desalia 2024 in the Canary Islands, where he looked healthy, enjoying the festivities with friends. Fans were quick to express their disbelief and grief after hearing of his passing, with many leaving heartfelt messages on the post. One fan wrote, “I can’t believe it!! RIP 🕊,” while another added, “So young, so handsome, so full of life, such a good actor. I can’t believe it, rest in peace José.”

The news of de la Torre’s death has sparked an outpouring of tributes from fans and fellow celebrities alike. Spanish actress Luisa Martín shared a heartfelt tribute on Instagram, saying, “It breaks my heart to think I’ll never hear your voice again, but I’ll keep talking to you. Love you endlessly, José.”

Singer Pablo Alborán also posted a message, expressing his shock: “I can’t believe you’re gone so soon. I’m devastated by your departure. I’m sending kisses to all of your family and friends.” Alborán added a personal touch, saying, “We’ll never forget you Jose. Wherever you are, I’m sure you’re wearing a Hawaiian shirt, a killer moustache, and those sunglasses like the ones we wore that day.”

Born in 1987 in Montilla, Córdoba, Spain, José de la Torre discovered his passion for acting at a young age and trained at the Higher School of Dramatic Art in Málaga. He made his acting debut in Toy Boy on Netflix in 2019, playing the role of Hugo, and continued to appear on the show until 2021. His performance in Toy Boy gained him significant recognition, and the success of the series opened doors for other roles, including appearances in Vis a Vis: El Oasis and Amar es para Siempre.

Beyond television, de la Torre also worked in theater, starring in productions like Cuento de Navidad and Paisaje con Argonautas.
