A Massachusetts man’s attempted “Santa Claus” getaway ended in anything but holiday cheer when he found himself wedged inside a chimney, leading to a dramatic—and slightly absurd—rescue and arrest.

The incident unfolded Tuesday evening in Fall River, MA, during a police operation targeting suspected narcotics activity. Officers executed a search warrant at a local residence, which sent suspects Robert Langlais, 37, and Tanisha Ibay, 29, scrambling for unconventional escape routes.

According to police, Ibay leapt from the roof onto a parked car in a desperate bid to flee. Meanwhile, Langlais opted for a less conventional route—climbing into the home’s chimney in an ill-fated attempt to evade capture.

Body camera footage released by authorities captured the chaotic moments. “Hands up!” an officer can be heard yelling to Ibay, who instead chose to make her high-stakes jump. The clip then shifts to a bystander pointing out Langlais’s location: “He’s in the chimney!”

One officer approached the chimney and shined a flashlight inside, revealing Langlais awkwardly trapped. “You’ve got nowhere to go, buddy. Let’s get you out of there,” the officer can be heard saying.

Fire and rescue teams were called to the scene to free Langlais from his self-made brick prison. After being safely extracted, he was transported to a local hospital for evaluation before facing charges of drug possession.

Ibay, who had sustained minor injuries from her roof-to-car leap, was also arrested and booked for narcotics possession.

Police confirmed the raid was part of an ongoing investigation into drug distribution in the area. A source within the department described Langlais and Ibay as “low-level operators” but noted the pair had been under surveillance for weeks.

One neighbor, speaking anonymously, shared their disbelief: “You hear about crazy escapes on TV, but this? A chimney? It’s like something out of a Christmas movie gone wrong.”

Neither Langlais nor Ibay could be reached for comment. Their court appearances are scheduled for later this month. As for their seasonal plans, it looks like they’ll be trading holiday cheer for some serious legal woes.

With their antics landing them squarely on Santa’s naughty list, it seems the only thing in their stockings this year will be coal—and maybe a court summons.
