Sarah Palin, often celebrated by supporters as the “Mother of MAGA,” isn’t hiding her frustration. The former Alaska governor and 2008 vice-presidential candidate has taken to social media, wondering why she’s not a pick for Donald Trump’s cabinet in his anticipated return to the White House.
As Trump quickly fills key roles, from Energy to Interior, Palin finds herself watching from the sidelines. On Sunday, she shared her thoughts—and a few biting comments from fans—with her followers, hinting at her disappointment. “And… another nominee announced!” she posted on Instagram, paired with a screenshot of a message from a fan: “What about you?” Palin acknowledged it with a simple “thank you,” underscoring the sentiment that she’s being left out.
One supporter didn’t mince words. “Palin was Trump before Trump,” they wrote in a fiery post that Palin herself shared. “She was the face of the Tea Party movement 16 years ago, paving the way for MAGA, and now she’s been sidelined. It’s shocking that in 2017 and again in 2025, she doesn’t get a seat at the table she helped set.”
The sentiment echoes what many see as an irony in Palin’s story. Back in 2016, Trump hinted she might serve as Secretary of the Interior, but the position went elsewhere. Now, with Trump’s return looking more certain, her name has been strikingly absent from any short-lists.
“Big tent, big party, but know your history so America can repeat the good parts,” Palin captioned one follower’s comment. It’s clear she wants a say in shaping the next chapter of the movement she helped build.
Once a leading figure in the Tea Party, Palin’s influence helped bring grassroots conservatism into mainstream politics. She was one of Trump’s earliest high-profile endorsers, backing him during a time when many in the GOP were wary. Now, with Trump’s upcoming cabinet choices looming large, her absence feels like a cold shoulder—one that many of her supporters feel is unjustified.
