In a surprising turn at a recent campaign rally, former president Donald Trump made an off-color remark about the late golf legend Arnold Palmer.
Speaking to a crowd in Latrobe, Pennsylvania, Trump bizarrely referenced Palmer’s genitals, a comment that left many shocked. According to Palmer’s family, the late sports icon would have been “appalled” by such crudeness.
Arnold Palmer, born in Latrobe and known for his gentlemanly demeanor on and off the course, passed away in 2016. He had a deep respect for sportsmanship and was known to be politically conservative, once having a close friendship with President Dwight D. Eisenhower.
However, his daughter, Peg Palmer, recalls her father’s reaction to Donald Trump’s rise in politics. She shared in a 2018 interview that her father was dismayed by Trump’s brashness and lack of civility, noting that he even expressed disgust when Trump appeared on television.
While Palmer supported Trump’s involvement in golf, attending charity events at Trump-owned courses, Peg said her father distanced himself from Trump’s political persona.
Arnold Palmer, who valued discipline and integrity, reportedly “cringed” at Trump’s behavior and comments, believing they lacked the decorum expected from a public figure, especially a potential president.
Trump has a history of inappropriate comments related to body image, dating back to his 2016 primary race, when he defended the size of his hands and other body parts in response to criticisms from opponents like Senator Marco Rubio. These types of remarks have been a recurring theme throughout Trump’s political career.
The contrast between Palmer’s respectful legacy and Trump’s controversial rhetoric highlights the wide divide in public figures’ approaches to leadership and personal conduct, leaving many older fans of Palmer disheartened by the incident.

Seems to me it was Marco Rubio that started off the hit parade.
