Former First Lady Melania Trump’s debut memoir, Melania, has been released, and comedian Jordan Klepper, a recurring host on The Daily Show, shared his thoughts on the book during a segment on Wednesday night.
Klepper introduced a passage from the memoir to his audience, setting the scene right after Donald Trump’s 2016 presidential victory.
In the excerpt, Melania recounts her conversation with her husband, saying, “Congratulations. What an achievement. All those other people, and you won. You’re the president of the United States of America.” According to Melania, Trump’s response was, “And you’re the first lady. Good luck.”
Klepper humorously responded, “I’ve got to wipe away a tear on that one. That is a heartwarming moment that definitely wasn’t created by ChatGPT.”
The comedian also referenced the 2016 controversy in which Melania Trump was accused of plagiarizing a speech from former First Lady Michelle Obama, adding, “Turns out, writing is hard when you don’t have Michelle Obama to plagiarize from.”
Klepper continued by reflecting on the couple’s relationship, noting, “People make a lot of jokes about this marriage, but when I look at their shared love of exploiting our political system for personal profit, I just see two soulmates.”
In the same segment, Klepper shifted his focus to Vice President Kamala Harris, critiquing her response during a recent interview on The View. When asked what she would do differently from President Joe Biden, Harris replied, “Not a thing comes to mind.”
Klepper commented on her response, saying, “Come on, Madam VP, this is an opportunity to differentiate yourself from an unpopular administration. Surely, you would do something different.”
He then played a clip of Harris stating that she would consider having a Republican in her cabinet, to which Klepper remarked, “Everything Joe Biden did, plus Republicans. Sneaky move, appealing to Republicans by promising a diversity hire. You know, they famously love that.”
