Donald Trump Sparks Concern with Comments During Recent Rally

During a rally in Pennsylvania on September 23, Donald Trump took aim at late-night hosts while reminiscing about Johnny Carson, who passed away in 2005. Trump suggested that Carson needed to return to television, sparking reactions online.

“He’s not very funny,” Trump remarked, referring to Jimmy Fallon after a clip from Kamala Harris’ 2020 appearance on The Tonight Show was shown during the rally, which focused on fracking. Trump quipped, “Mamala Kamala just don’t give a frack.”

Trump continued his critique, claiming, “Those three guys are being blown away by [Fox News’] Gutfeld. When I first ran in 2015 or was thinking about running, I went on The Tonight Show, which is dying. They’re all dying. Where is Johnny Carson? Bring back Johnny. It made you appreciate the greatness of Johnny Carson. These three guys are so bad.”

Trump’s comments sparked a flurry of reactions on social media, particularly given that Carson has been deceased for nearly two decades.

One person wrote, “Johnny Carson has been dead for nearly 30 years!” while another chimed in, “He passed away two decades ago.” Others took a more critical tone, with one saying, “Shouldn’t MAGA be worried about their cult leader at this point? He’s clearly showing mental health issues,” and another adding, “His marbles are gone.”

This isn’t the first time Trump has made seemingly out-of-touch remarks. As previously reported, Trump has repeatedly referenced Hannibal Lecter, the fictional villain from The Silence of the Lambs.

“They’re emptying out their mental institutions into the United States, our beautiful country,” Trump said in May. “You know what the difference is, right? An insane asylum is a mental institution on steroids.”

Trump continued with a reference to The Silence of the Lambs, calling Hannibal Lecter a “wonderful man.” He added, “The late, great Hannibal Lecter oftentimes would have a friend for dinner.”

This odd comparison left many confused, with one person pointing out, “Imagine if Joe Biden said Hannibal Lecter is a wonderful man? The media continues to normalize Trump’s bizarre statements.” Others noted that these gaffes are part of a pattern, referencing a New Jersey rally where Trump confused Jimmy Carter with tennis legend Jimmy Connors.
