An 82-year-old McDonald’s worker who is a Vietnam veteran is unable quit his job because he cannot afford to retire.
Edward Eubanks has worked at the Henderson McDonald’s – just outside of Las Vegas – since 2009, where he keeps the dining room in tip-top shape by cleaning the tables, stocking the drink station and sweeping the floors.
‘I tell them I am Mr. Ed, aka the hamburger man,’ he told News 3 Las Vegas while wearing a hamburger hat.
The veteran has been working diligently since his early 20s, starting by helping his dad when he was younger to fighting in the war.
His longest employment stint was when he worked for Nevada National Security Site for 26 years, where he was a radiation monitor.
‘That was interesting,’ he told the outlet. ‘I worked from 1964 to, I think, 1999.’
After that, he worked as an assistant to a local handyman and now McDonald’s.
Throughout his life, he hasn’t been able to save for his retirement with any of the previous jobs he’s held, he told the local news outlet, but he still hopes to one day.
But for now, he’s enjoying his time with his coworkers and the customers at McDonald’s.
As for his motto: ‘If you laugh a lot and keep moving, you’ve got it made.’
A community member started a GoFundMe to help give the older man some financial relief.
Abraham A. Cruz wrote: ‘He is 82 YO and such a nice guy, hard worker and really good guy. I’m not pretending to make him rich, but I’m pretty sure we can give him some relief.’
More than 30 percent of those above 50 don’t expect to have enough money to retire, according to AARP.
And among adults who regularly save for retirement, only 36 percent believe they’ll eventually have enough to be financially secure at their current savings rate, while 33 percent are confident they won’t have enough money.
As of Saturday, the fundraising efforts have garnered $10,525, which is $25 more than its $10,500 goal.

Given inflation that has eaten away from Social Security and every year Medicare Part B increases more then the increase in social security plus part D coverage for RX and part F supplemental insurance that covers the 2O % that part B does not cover, we retired people will have to continue to work as long as possible. Retirement is only possible for 1% of the population or they are Senators and Congress men and woman.
