A 9-year-old motocross rider tragically died in a “freak accident” Sunday while she was racing along a track at a California motorsports park.

Brooke Carlton was riding her off-road motorbike at Lake Elsinore Motorsports Park when she was struck by another juvenile rider shortly before 10 a.m., according to officials and the family.

Good Samaritans were giving first aid to Brooke, who was unconscious, when emergency responders arrived and rushed her to a local hospital, but she could not be saved, the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.

The other child involved in the collision was treated at the scene for minor injuries, according to the sheriff’s office. Skip in 5s

The girl’s parents and family friends announced her death on a fundraising page launched to support the family.

“Yesterday, the good Lord called out dear Brook Lily to heaven after a freak accident at a local motocross track,” Jason and Angie Carlton wrote. “Our entire family is still trying to understand why our Brookie, but we firmly believe that God needed her and called her home to be with him.”

Brooke was an ambassador for the motorsports apparel brand Go Fast Girls, according to her profile on its website where she said she loved “to be out on the track competing with other girls and going fast.”

The 9-year-old was described as “an absolute sweetheart that could brighten anyone’s day with her warm smile and bright blonde halo of curls” in the GoFundMe page created to support her family.

“For those that REALLY knew Brooke, she was a total spitfire that knew what she wanted and there was no way of getting around it,” family friend Ally Giles wrote in the fundraiser description. “One look at her glittering eyes and toothy smile and she could have you convinced that the sky was indeed pink and purple, and that you should ‘buy her an ice cream’ because of it.”

Brooke loved her parents, her grandparents, her dog Gunner, and “she loved her brother Landon the most,” Giles wrote.

The motorsports park where the deadly collision occurred offered its support to Brooke’s family in a statement honoring the young girl.

“We are truly sad about the situation. This was such a freak accident as the parent said,” Lake Elsinore Motorsports Park wrote in an Instagram post. “This is not a time to bash the track but a time to remember this little girl and support her family. We are a community and we will do our part in supporting the family as well.”

Officials with the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office, the Lake Elsinore Sheriff’s Station and Traffic Bureau are investigating the collision.
