Stillwater police have made four arrests in the case where a dead longhorn steer was found outside of a fraternity house the day before the University of Texas’ Big 12 Championship game vs. Oklahoma State University.
The four people arrested on Wednesday were Bennett Fady, Luke Ackerley, Brody Shelby and Andrew King for a misdemeanor of unlawful removal/disposal of a carcass.
The steer was found outside of the FarmHouse fraternity porch on Dec. 1. It was branded with the words “(expletive) FH” and had a large cut on its abdomen.
Report reveals longhorn steer died of disease
It was later learned through a necropsy report that the steer died of disease 36 hours prior and had not been killed prior to being placed on the lawn. Members of the FarmHouse fraternity told police that they believed the animal was left on the lawn by the fraternity Alpha Gamma Rho as part of the ongoing prank war between the houses.
Police eventually obtained a search warrant and identified the four AGR members they believed to be the culprits of the crime. According to court documents, they attempted to talk to members of the fraternity to find out which members were involved, but AGR was uncooperative.
“There was a significant amount of collective lack of cooperation from the Alpha Gamma Rho organization,” police wrote in an affidavit.
Police said that Fady’s plan was discouraged by several members of the fraternity. The members who did participate attempted to avoid detection by using another member’s truck and parking it in the trees on the east side of the farm where the steer was taken.
Each member was booked in Payne County Jail and released on their recognizance. All four have pleaded not guilty.
