A teenager in Orlando, Florida, flashed an eerie smile while being arrested for the deaths of a six-year-old girl and a 19-year-old man.
Nico Brown, 15, was detained on charges of first-degree murder after little Ajahliyah Hashim died from gunshot wounds – and he gave a grimacing smirk as he was handcuffed and led into a police car by Orlando Police.
The ordeal took place on August 29, just before 8.30pm when shots were fired from a moving vehicle into a home.
Ajahliyah Hashim, six, was inside her living room on 1100 block of Poppy Avenue with her mother, who was also hit by the multiple bullets.
According to police, the mother and young daughter were not the intended victims. The elementary school girl died from her injuries.
Isaiyah Wright, 19, was also shot and killed on the same night. It’s unclear how he was involved in the ordeal, but died at another hospital.
Orange County Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Maria Vazquez wrote in a statement: ‘My heart goes out to the Eagle’s Nest Elementary community, which has just lost a 6-year-old student to gun violence (Thursday) night.
‘Our students should not have to live in a world where their lives are in danger in their own neighborhoods.
‘I cannot imagine the pain Ajahliyah’s family is going through. We can not accept that these tragedies have become all too common in our community.’
A witness told News 6: ‘I heard the rapid gunfire and I called 911. They were really shooting.
‘She was such a beautiful girl. So quiet. You would want (the mother) for a neighbor. No loudness, no riffraff, her kids were very controlled.’
Another neighbor told WFTV: ‘Pow, pow, pow, pow. I thought it was a machine gun. Pow, pow, pow, pow, pow. They done shot up my house before.’
And a third local said bullets struck her home in a separate shooting: ‘Twice on my home and they were on Facebook saying ‘I shot your grandma’s house up.”
