A devastating incident has shocked the community of Kellogg, Idaho, as Majorjon Kaylor, a 31-year-old man, faces charges of first-degree murder and burglary for the alleged killing of a family of four.
Court documents reveal a distressing chain of events that led to this tragic outcome, involving an altercation stemming from an alleged indecent exposure incident. As the community grapples with the aftermath, details of the case shed light on the series of events that unfolded on that fateful day.
The Victims and Alleged Motive:
The victims of the fatal shooting were identified as Kenneth Guardipee, a 65-year-old grandfather, Kenna Guardipee, a 41-year-old mother, and her two sons, 18-year-old Devin Smith and 16-year-old Aiken Smith. According to police reports, Kaylor’s wife, Kaylie Kaylor, claimed that Devin had exposed himself in front of her and her children on multiple occasions, including incidents witnessed through his window.
Investigation and Unresolved Charges:
Law enforcement authorities had previously responded to reports of indecent exposure involving Devin but the charges did not appear in the court system, either because they hadn’t been filed or had not yet been made public. Police had conducted an investigation and submitted a report to the prosecutor’s office, recommending charges of indecent exposure. However, it is unclear why the charges did not progress.
The Tragic Breaking Point:
In the affidavit, Kaylor stated that he confronted Devin’s mother and grandfather about his concerns regarding the alleged indecent exposure incidents but felt they did not take his concerns seriously. Frustration and worry over the safety of his children led Kaylor to reach a breaking point. He confessed to “snapping” and taking action to address the situation, according to police statements.
The Fatal Encounter:
During a heated argument between Kaylor, his wife Kaylie, Kenneth, and Kenna outside their apartments, gunshots were heard. Kaylie reported hearing the shots but did not witness her husband holding a firearm. In a heartbreaking turn of events, both Kenna and Kenneth fell to the ground. Kaylor then entered their apartment, where he shot Aiken before targeting Devin, allegedly firing multiple shots at close range.
Aftermath and Legal Proceedings:
Following the shootings, Kaylor returned to his apartment, handing over his belongings to his wife and instructing her to hold onto them. Disturbingly, she overheard him confessing to killing four people during a phone conversation. Law enforcement officers apprehended Kaylor, and he now faces four counts of first-degree murder, a charge that could carry the death penalty upon conviction.
Looking Ahead:
As the community mourns the loss of the Guardipee family, Kellogg grapples with the aftermath of this tragic event. The upcoming preliminary hearing will shed further light on the case and determine how the legal proceedings will proceed. In the face of unimaginable sorrow, the community will come together to support one another and seek solace during this difficult time.
