Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) told police officers he didn’t understand why they didn’t open fire on rioting Donald Trump supporters who stormed the U.S. Capitol, according to a new book.
“You guys should have shot them all in the head,” key Trump ally Graham reportedly told a group of law enforcement officials who responded to the violence on Jan. 6, 2021 in a meeting four months after the attack.
“We gave you guys guns, and you should have used them. I don’t understand why that didn’t happen,” Graham reportedly added.
Former D.C. Metropolitan Police officer Michael Fanone, who was badly beaten by Trump supporters on the day, recalled the exchange in his new book “Hold the Line: The Insurrection and One Cop’s Battle for America’s Soul.”
Politico shared excerpts on Friday.
Fanone also recalled Graham warning he’d end a meeting with the bereaved mother of Capitol Police officer Brian Sicknick, who died after the riot, “right now” if she continued to speak badly of Trump. Graham has not commented on the claims.
Fanone, a one-time Trump voter, has become a fierce critic of Republican hypocrisy over the riot and GOP attempts to downplay the violence. He resigned from the police last year and is now a contributor on law enforcement issues for CNN.
Graham routinely condemned Trump before his 2016 election victory but went on to become one of his staunchest supporters. After the riot, Graham said “enough is enough” and appeared to cut ties with Trump. But he’s since cozied back up to the former president.

Lindsey Graham is a RINO. He has no idea’s of his own, he says what the lobbyists, and others that pad his pockets tell him to say. The statement that the police should have killed anyone shows his ignorance. The people sitting in jail were not rioters, they were protesters. We have had plenty of rioters and they have destroyed cities, looted and burned businesses, and even killed people and Graham said nothing. I pray this is his last term in office. He has to go.
I am 72 years old & watched the attack live while it was unfolding. I am still shocked & would not believe this event could possibly occur in our great country. I would only pray that something good comes from all of this pain, suffering & deaths from Mr. D.J.Trump. Justice should prevail for all those survivors & I pray it happens. Mr. D.J.Trump needs to go to the big boys prison with NO get out of jail free card, this time. He needs to pay for his insurrection, as well as all his OTHER crimes.
