An Uber driver was arrested after allegedly kidnapping a 16-year-old boy.
According to a press release from San Patricio County Sheriff Oscar Rivera, the 16-year-old male victim requested a ride from Portland to Rockport.
The driver, 44-year-old Jaime Javier Morin, reportedly offered the victim a drink, and the teenager woke up in a house in Sinton, 31 miles away from where he requested to go.
According to KIII-TV, the victim ran to a nearby house to call for help.
Rivera says the teen was interviewed, and a search warrant was executed for the driver’s home. Morin was reportedly arrested and charged with indecency with a child. Rivera says Morin remains held on $75,000 bond.
In a statement to KIII, an Uber spokesperson said, “We are appalled by the reported details of this driver’s actions. His access to the Uber platform was removed as soon as our ongoing background screening technology picked up the charges, and we are committed to helping law enforcement on their investigation.”
