A documentary film producer has said he ‘hopes’ Alec Baldwin is charged with manslaughter after accidentally shooting and killing a cinematographer on the set of his new movie Rust.
The 68-year-old Hollywood actor was holding the firearm – which was a prop gun – when he accidentally discharged it, shooting Halyna Hutchins, 42, director of photography, as well as the film’s director Joel Souza, 48.
Hutchins was sadly pronounced dead after being airlifted to the University of New Mexico Hospital while Souza was released from hospital earlier today.
Now, Errol Webber has given his opinion on Twitter, writing: “Hopefully Alec Baldwin gets manslaughter at the very least.
“But knowing the Democrats and their penchant for protecting criminals, I wouldn’t be surprised if he gets off with 10 hours of community service… If that.”
His tweet was accompanied by a comment Baldwin made back in September 2017 (four years ago) which said: “I wonder how it must feel to wrongfully kill someone…”
People have swiftly responded to him, with one slamming him for bringing politics into the equation following on from the tragedy as others pointed out that the tweet from Baldwin has been taken out of context.
One person asked: “Why should he? It was a prop whoever handles the prop department should be held responsible.”
Another added: “If he does get charged with manslaughter he’ll be found innocent and rightly so if there are no suspicious circumstances. A tweet taken out of context doesn’t mean anything.”
And a third said: “You obviously don’t know how film sets work. It’s the AD (assistant director’s) job to clear the weapon before use NOT the actor. Alec is also a victim of this mishap.”
To the last message, Errol replied: “You are to treat all firearms, real, fake, toy, or prop, as you would a real gun with live ammo.
“While SOME responsibility should be borne by the armorer, ultimately, the responsibility lies with the person holding the gun, POINTING IT AT SOMEONE, and discharging the gun.”
A Santa Fe Sheriff’s Department official explained there is an investigation open and active, but added: “Mr Baldwin was questioned by investigators and released. No arrests or charges have been filed.”

More than likely he will not be held responsible because of who he is. As to others being responsible for making sure the gun would not fire a round, that is not the final safety step. The number one NRA Gun Safety Rule is “ALWAYS Keep The Gun Pointed In A Safe Direction”.

Mr. Errol said, “…the responsibility lies with the person holding the gun, POINTING IT AT SOMEONE, and discharging the gun.” Is this an actual rule on the sets of all movies he produces? If not, perhaps he needs to realize that a person holding a fake gun, a rubber band gun, a cap gun, or a toy gun, will take responsibility for pointing that fake weapon at someone else, but is also fully aware that they cannot be hurt by it, so does not expect any danger. A rubber band might sting a bit, but that would be the extent of the damage. There is too much information missing from this story, such as, was it a prop gun, or a real one? If it were a prop, at what distance was it fired that a blank wad could kill someone? Normally, to do that, it has to be fired at point blank range, and most actors are informed of that danger by the props department.

Yes it seems that Alec needed some additional proof that the gun was real. One dead might be a health fluke, maybe a heart attack at the exact time of the gun going off. But a second person injured means its real. LOL

Wow I think this is really cool!!! A movie where the guy being shot at actually does die! When I was a little kid I used to think actors really died when they got shot on The Lone Ranger show. You seem to be drawing a lot into this nowhere does it say they were directing him to shoot the gun. The woman that was killed was watching film on a monitor at the time she was shot. You don’t know the circumstances either and making them up like you are makes me believe you’re a liberal it’s what they do make up facts.
